How long is your commute to work?

1h10mins door to door (including drive to train, train + usual delays, walk to work).

However I work in NYC and when I lived in the City (ie probably a mile from work) it would STILL take me 45 mins some days due to congestion, subway traffic etc. So I consider my commute not so bad when I take into consideration the fact that I now live some 40 miles away!

about 35 minutes - 10 minute walk to the train, 5 minutes on the train, 15 minute bus ride and 5 minute walk

12 seconds...I work from home.

This is my goal in the next few years!

About 5 minutes. I love it! Parking here kinda sucks so I have to walk another 4-5 minutes from my car to my office but its still not bad.

20 minutes no matter whether I walk it or bus it

15-20 minutes on the cable car (lucky me!). It used to take me 2 hours on transit (if all connections were on time) when I lived 40 miles away. Those were not fun times.

About 35 minutes give or take. It''s not a bad commute, though I miss walking a mile to grad school every day (that was easy, fast, and good for the waistline!).

2 miles, 5 minutes!

In our old house in the next town, I was 2 miles and 5 minutes from work. Planned it that way, LOVED IT. Then they upped and moved my WORKPLACE! Yes, they literally closed doen the "old" hospital and built a new one 30 minutes away from the old location (and our home).

I HATED that drive. Did it one winter and then we sold our house and moved. To, you guessed it... a new house that''s 2 miles and 5 minutes away (again!)

I resent commuting time, I really do. I spend enough time AT THE JOB, I can''t bear to spend another large chunk of time getting there and back! GAH!!!

15 mins by car...prob 30 mins by bus (haven''t done it in awhile)

My commute is about 15 minutes each way. My husband''s is about an hour each way. Lucky for him he carpools with a coworker.

Mine is about 30 minutes if I go straight there. Normally I drop Amber to my parent''s house and then go to work so it takes a bit longer.

I live 1.5 miles from my job. It takes literally 5 minutes or less. I''m thankful for my commute now, I used to do 54 miles one way before I became a teacher.

35 minutes plus a 6 minute walk. When they were doing construction it would take about an hour.. thank goodness it''s all done!

Mine is 35 minutes. A little longer than I would like, but it''s definitely do-able!

~30m - 15 to drive, 15 to walk from the parking structure.

Mine averages about an hour depending on traffic, 20 miles. I take the bus though, so it''s not painful because I sleep in the morning and surf the web or read a book on the way home. The only time it gets to me is if I''m starving for dinner.

15 minutes to get there, 30 to get home - unless I work second shift, then it''s 10 minutes each way.

This is a touchy subject with me and I was JUST complaining to FI about it

My boss approached me and said that I need to be here by 8:30 because that''s the official office hours (8:30 to 5). I get here between 9 and 9:15 but I stay until 8:30/9pm almost every night.

Here''s why it makes me angry. In order to be here at 9am, I have to be on the road at 8:20. That means I can wake up at 7am, eat breakfast at home, wait for my DD to wake up on her own, feed her, drive calmly to work, and be on the road for just 40 minutes. And MIL has time to eat her breakfast, take a shower, and prepare some things before we arrive. When I get to work, I turn on my computer and start working immediately.

In order for me to be at work at 8:30, I have to leave my house at 7am. That means waking up at 5:30am to get ready, waking DD up an hour earlier so she''s cranky as heck, forcing her to scarf down her bottle, and if she doesn''t eat quick enough, stopping and having MIL (who has to wake up way earlier to do everything she needs to do) give her the bottle when she gets there. I''m in traffic for 1.5 hours and by the time I get to work I''m stressed, frustrated, and tense. I turn on my computer but don''t get to work immediately because no one is available, everyone is getting breakfast which is what I end up doing also because I''m starving. And I STILL leave at 8:30/9pm.

That would upset me too, Fiery. I think it would makse so much sense for companies to allow for flex time (if you have the type of job where flex time would work). I couln''t do it in my job, but I don''t see anything wrong with people in other professions working based on a schedule that works best for their families. I wish companies understood the strain that families are under and were more supportive.

My old job was right around the corner from where we live, so my commute was less than 3 minutes. Now that I''ve changed jobs, I have a 40 minute commute. It''s not bad really, but I''d prefer a 20-30 minute commute. For some reason, those extra 10-20 minutes seem to take forever.

We both work ~32 miles from home and it takes between 1.5 and 2 hours to get to work each day (and back). Averaging less than 20 miles an hour each way to work can be very aggravating. It''s better than my previous commute (of 95 miles each way and 2.5 hrs) but it is still a lot. The problem is that it''s too expensive to move closer to work (gotta hate boston sometimes).....

Walking: 25 minutes
Driving: 5-7 minutes, depending on how the stoplights go

Holy time-robbing. I''m so sorry to hear this.

About 5 to 7 minutes.

Door to desk it''s about 25-30 minutes. Drive is about 15-20 minutes and that''s with light traffic, 5-7 minutes to park, and then walk from parking structure to my desk is about 3-5 minutes depending on elevators.

Fiery, hope they can figure out something with your hours!

Thanks Zoe and I agree. They have played around with the idea of giving flex hours but it fizzles as quickly as it is mentioned.

Unfortunately, there''s nothing I can do. They''re making a huge deal out of bieng here at 8:30. There''s even signs posted in the elevator that say something along the lines of making a difference if we are here at that time

We are working on figuring things out. FI is going to take her to MIL''s twice a week so that I don''t have to rush out every day. It makes no sense for him to take her since he has to drive 40 miles north, I drive 40 miles south and his mom lives south but it''s not a big deal for him.

Seal Beach to Long Beach, aprox 12 - 15 minutes (half freeway, half surface streets). For the LA area that''s great!

My commute to school is about 20 minutes, but it''s a lovely drive through some amazing scenery. It''s about an hour and 40 minutes if I go by bus, which I do occasionally to chill out and enjoy the view.

PP, I would not mind any commute that started and / or ended in someplace with ''beach'' in the name. I love to be near the ocean.

20 mins - easy drive. I actually like my commute - it''s a nice little chunk of NPR in the am, but not too long, not a stressful drive.
