So some of you may have heard my dilemna before. I purchased a diamond for my fiance whcih we are exchanging becuse the color was off from the cert. It has now been over 2 months and the dealer that i bought the original diamond from still does not have a replacement that fits what I am looking for. Is it uncommon for it to take so long to find a particular diamond? Keep in mind Im looking for a 1.50 qt. princess cut in H or I color GIA. I am trying to find a stone that has the approx. dimensions of her current diamond which is bigger than the avg. 1.5qt due to it being more shallow. Everytime I talk to him its either the stones are too rectangular...or the only get in D,E,F or I,J,K in with EGL certs. Keep in mind he is a sightholder....therefore I would think he would have a big supply of diamonds. He is also trying to fit into my budget.

I trust him completely that he hasnt gotten in what im looking for. It just seems to me that there is an ample supply online of diamonds yet he cant find what I''m looking for. Have any of you had to wait for a considerable amount of time to find a diamond? He did tell me that princess cuts are harder to come by and If I wanted a round he has them in every size, shape and grade.

I guess Im just getting impatient...as is my fiance.

are you bound to him by trade or could you move on to another vendor?

I am more bound to him by price. He is at least $1,000 less than any comparable online price I have seen. He is selling the stone to me at the price he would charge a store or online company. So in other words Im saving the markup. He is also a family friend. I was just curious if anyone could comment on the apparant shortage of larger princess stones. He is one of the largest importers of diamonds in the world yet it still is taking a long time. I just wanted to see if this is not uncommon.

time is money, but if you are determined to buy from him then you have no choice but to wait.
btw.. a search in the very narrow confines of gia graded princess cuts 1.50-1.52cts h-i/si1-2 turned up no less than 3 pages worth of results.
