We are finally making a down payment on my custom designed e-ring after 2 YEARS (!!!!) of going back and forth on stones, settings, and designs. I have finally decided on a rose gold double halo with white diamonds and pink sapphires to hold a 1.5ct asscher cut. My husband is relieved to say the least... phew! If I had the money, I would have designed 10 other rings already, but in the end this is what I went with...

So is 2 years a ridiculous time frame? How long did everyone''s dream ring take to decide on?

I may be fickle, but my decision took me less than a minute: I''d been bouncing bezel ideas around in my head, but when I saw my setting, I just grabbed it. For a custom design, though, I''d say two years isn''t that unusual, at least not around here! Your planned design sounds lovely - I will look forward to seeing pics as the process progresses.

we finally put down the down payment today..it took us about a lil under a year for me to make my final decision on the stone and the setting I wanted to design...nothing wrong with waiting for what you know in your heart and eyes what you want in my opinion! You''re going to be wearing it everyday for the rest of your life :)

I was in the love with the setting I chose way before I got my my last stone. It took me less than a week to decide between my solitare and a 3 stone.

I figure something will always come along that''ll make me go wow, but it''s usually short lived. However, if the day comes where I''m just blown away by a design, i can always reset it.

Nine months to find the diamond, and a year and a half to find the setting.

I had the vision for what I wanted in an upgrade seven years ago. No other design ever swayed me. A square or rectangle center stone flanked with trillions. A major piece of my dream was the center stone, I knew a fancy shape would face up smaller than a RB, so the stone would need to be a larger carat weight. It was worth the wait, to save up for it. - I had this style pretty fixed in my mind, and nothing, no deal on any alternate stone could sway me. Upgrading in increments would only have been frustrating, so I waited to go for color and carat and the shape of my heart''s desire. My only hard decision was a radiant or princess for the center stone. I''m pretty clumsy, knocking into things all the time so when we finally went shopping for the stone, reality set in and I realized a princess corners would be a real risk with me. Once we said, lets do it now, we really moved fast. After I had the stone, it was a matter of days to have it set exactly the way I always imagined it. So it was a seven year vision, but it went lightening fast once we said, let''s do it.

The frst diamond search as a newbie was pretty grueling and exhausting. The upgrade a couple years later, not so much.

The setting search was pretty easy... but then I got tired of it really fast and so I had a re-set done. Then another. Then another. And I''m on my 4th one now.

Yeah, I''m sick!

here''s how nuts I was on my dream ring. I actually had pictures of the set I love as a SCREENSAVER on my computer, just in case I forgot... ....

Two years to find the perfect antique setting for my 3.55 ct OEC. The OEC was an unexpected find, I wasn''t planning on getting it but when I found it it was irresistable; so I can''t say I was actively "searching" for the rock itself. Finding an antique setting (that I liked) to fit a large stone

The 1.22 ct OEC I wear on my right hand, I found the stone pretty quick- a week or so of searching- and the antique setting it''s in took about four months to find more or less.

I had been visiting this designer''s shop for years. I knew I would go with him when the time came. When I got my 25th anniversary upgrade, we just made an appointment, went in and he designed the ring. The search for the stones was made, and the whole thing was done in a couple of months.

I''m pretty sure that I spent a lot less time than many folks here worrying about what exactly was my dream ring. But, I had been admiring certain settings for years, (I love by-pass designs), so that is what I went with.
