How locked down can we make our accounts?

For example I know that we can change settings to limit our post history but is there a way to keep our posts from showing up in a Google search?
 
I would also like to know @YadaYadaYada That‘s why I changed my user name and won’t post pics that are personal.
 
I'm not entirely sure you can keep the pictures from going into Google search. I think the only way is to just not post them in the first place. But if I am wrong I would love to be corrected!

Hmm I dunno. I just pretty much refuse to post much in posts or pictures that are too identifying after what happened to me with those people years back just in case with someone somehow getting my fb that I never gave them.

I also assume Google will save everything i post. Especially if someone archives it. I've seen messy people do inappropriate doxxing stuff on other sites where they contacted family because they didn't like the content someone was posting. So yeah. Better to just not post something whether a post or a picture if you worry someone might do something with it. Sucks that we have to do that though :(
 
So basically the only way to keep someone who has found your posts and knows who you are from reading them is to change your name?

I don’t think there’s a way to make it so that your posts won’t be found in search engines. A few key words and it’s all there. That’s why I had to completely start anew and deactivate my old account of 10+ years :cry2: and start with a brand new one. I couldn’t just change my username. I didn’t want anyone correlating me with my old account/posts.

I remember a couple months ago I got a notification that someone was ‘following’ me. I felt pretty uncomfortable with that especially since it wasn’t a regular member.:hand: Why would someone follow me? I admit I posted less frequently for a bit after that.

Just FYI, you can ‘lock down’ your post history only by removing access to that one section where you can scroll through all your posts. Your posts are still searchable through PS and google. Your photos are searchable through google and can also link to your posts. I believe you can even access deleted threads/posts through google. When they say they internet is forever that’s what they mean. It’s actually very easy to find people, if you post the same picture on multiple forums they will all show up in an image search.
Best advice is to not post anything you wouldn’t post publically/on your fb because it’s pretty darn easy to track people these days.
 
Can one of you great PS folk do me a favor and see if you go under my username if you can see my old posts? I think I changed my security settings so you can see them but I’m not totally sure.

That could have been an accident. If you click on someone’s UN in a post it shows follow/ignore near the bottom where one may have just tried to click out of the box.
 
@telephone89, I understand totally what you’re saying, in general if someone IRL found me here I wouldn’t be as upset but this situation is a clusterf to put it kindly.

There is a girl who has been paying my son A LOT of attention she is 13. She tracked me down on IG so I changed my name and I put my account on private. Now she has apparently googled my IG name which brought up the recent “Instagram jewelry accounts to follow” thread in Hangout on PS.

My worry is that she will read something about one of the kids and tell my older son. Think something like if I said he still slept with a teddy bear at 13 and she told him that she read this on the forum. Clearly he might be upset and embarrassed, I would feel awful if this happened.

She has already tried to make two accounts on PS and was slightly discouraged that an administrator had to approve it.

I’m just really disturbed to be honest, upset and disturbed that this girl want to read my posts on a jewelry forum.

I can still see your old posts.
 
Really wish there was the ability to delete threads or messages without having to go through the moderators.

By clicking on your user name I can still see your threads back to 2016 and if I keep clicking on your messages and “view more” it keeps going back in time. When I search messages from user and specify you 6k results show up. I don’t understand the security on this site at all. Because I also set “limit who can see profile” and it doesn’t seem to limit who can see posts at all.
 
I wasn't logged in and was able to see all the threads you've created since 2016, click on them and read them.

When I clicked on your messages, I could only see back to April 2020.

Sorry you're dealing with this concern; there is nothing more important than looking after our children.

if its any consolation i googled yadayadayada and only got Seinfeld (i obviously do not have the stalker gene)
Not one single person knows im here but i do sometimes take screenshots of the meme thread to shear on my Springsteen forum
im very weary of face book just that i hate gossip
i do post pictures of Tibby and Borris on both places and i don't hide my identity too much over there, its a much smaller community
I know it wouldn't take a genius to work out who i am
lucky i don't own any descent diamonds :lol-2:
But im sad you are in this situation regarding this fixated girl and you have given us all things to think about

OMG! That is extremely weird and creepy! Unfortunately if she has already linked the accounts, changing a UN will not help, as old pictures/posts would just show your new UN and she could track you that way. You'd need to start a completely new account and not have any similar identifying information (pictures/etc).

I can't access your profile, but I can still see all 6k of your posts.

Well short of another name change, I’ve changed my privacy settings the best I can. If she wants to read the threads then fine, if she decides to use something she finds against my son then she is only hurting herself in the long run. I’m not going to scrap my entire PS history for a 13 year old kid. Onward!

Hopefully its a breif phase and she'll get board and move onto something more age appropriate to fixate over

I wonder if you should tell your son in as little detail as possible this girl is stalking you online

So this girl has been bold enough to tell you she’s tried to create an account here twice?

That’s even weirder than obsessing and searching on the down low.
She’s either extremely uninhibited and impulsive and naive or the opposite - destructive and manipulative on top of that.

@Daisys and Diamonds, my son already knows that she has basically been internet stalking me. She told him and he saw how upset I was when she found my IG, because she somehow found it indirectly through my SIL.

@Rfisher, she thinks of it as a game I believe, she announced it on the phone and my son had her on speaker. I was so upset that someone would invade my privacy I couldn’t even talk. I have encouraged him to keep his distance from her.

The mother has referred to my 13 year old son as a stud muffin :shock:
