I am looking for a stone and told the vendor I only wanted VG or Ex polish for an EC-they said it was unnecessary and I was limiting myself. That it was unnoticeable to the naked eye. I dont agree. I had a EC with Good polish and now mine has VG and I think that there is a big difference................thoughts?

WS, my view from reading the experts on here is that excellent polish is a sign of quality...care and time taken to finish the diamond well. If I were in the market for a very fine diamond of the size you are seeking, I surely wouldn''t want less than VG just on principle. And in fact, even on my little 1.4 that is coming very soon, I wanted vg to excellent polish (and did end up with EX).

thanks for your comments: 1.4 isnt so bad! what shape?

I agree with diamondseeker, if I were buying a diamond the size you are considering, I probably wouldn''t go lower than very good polish and symmetry either. Normally on fancy cuts I don''t think there''s much difference between good and excellent polish and symmetry, but since you are going to get a rather sizeable diamond, you might be able to visually see these things. On my little 1.03 carat radiant, I can''t see that it''s only good polish and symmetry. I was looking for the right combination of numbers, and it was hard enough to find that, so I wasn''t as worried about polish and symmetry.

i don't have much to add with regards to polish on fancies but i'm pretty picky about polish and symmetry when it comes to my diamonds, especially rounds, i want an EX or ID for sure. it would be hard for me to get a diamond that was only VG. even though i know it doesn't always make a difference .... maybe on an EC it would because of the fewer facets then the polish might be more important?

but if a diamond came around and it was PERFECT in every way but that one...and it was a very hard to find stone with regards to size and cut and all that....i might be able to overlook the polish if it was VG. but beyond that i don't know...tough call! for me it's kind of like DF's mind-clean....i want high mind-polish...hehee.

Just my thoughts here......Comparing two of my round diamonds, one with good polish and one with VG I am SURE I can see a difference unless it is just crazy old me ( which it might be!) I think with the type of rock you want WS I would agree with everyone else to shoot for the best you can get, but maybe don''t let it be a deal breaker if the diamond is cherry in all other respects. I have always heard from some experts that good and above all look the same to the lay person, but it might be that some are sharper at noticing the differences than others
