IMO, H is super safe... in a closed setting like that J would be too, especially if the stone is not very large (3-4 cts).

WEll, just IMO. You can always try out some diamonds at a local shop. If anything, worse cut would show color more - so if those are safe, ideals would be even better.

The best thing to do is look at the stone you have in mind next to the setting (or one similar to it) if at all possible!! I have an H pendant in yellow gold, and when I had it appraised, the appraiser liked it but said in his opinion, it would look better in white gold/platinum.....

I had an I color stone in a platinum setting and it faced up very white. An H should be no problem. There are several threads on PS with I and even J color stones in wihte metal rings (pt or wg)...they look fabulous and not "tinted" compared to the metal.

An H will look fine with platinum. However, if you or your GF is colour sensitive then perhaps compare an F and H side-by-side. My eyes are very colour sensitive and I can tell a H or even a G even when set in platinum (and not beside a comparator stone or white paper). If your eyes aren''t sensitive to colour, it''s probably a non-issue.

I have an H set in platinum, it looks terrific! I''ll never understand why people get smaller diamonds for higher color, people really notice sparkle & size first, not color! Don''t go below or above an H & you''ll never regret it!

Cut plays a big part in how a diamond will face up and how evident the body color would be. I purchased a H color diamond a couple years back. It was a 1.01 H vs1 Hearts & Arrows and it faced up beautifully in the platinum setting I had it mounted in.

People keep saying that an "I" looks white. I do not know what that means. I look at the ring and it looks what I call "icey", not white.
