How huge of a price difference is it to purchase a Diamond during Nov - Feb?

Hello folks,

I just have a simple question. I am shopping for an engagement ring, I actually have another thread open about this where I've decided to purchase a loose diamond online and have a setting custom made elsewhere.
I do plan on making a purchase with one of the online stores such as: JA, BN, WF, BGD, and EnchantedDiamonds (which has a $1,000 off sale going on).

With that said, I've read that November - Feb are considered the peak season for diamond shopping, and that I should avoid shopping anytime between these months. However, there seems to be a few sales going on right now such as the $1,000 off with Enchanted Diamonds. I've also read that "Diamonds are never on sale" and that it is simply a myth.

I will leave it to PS to tell me how much truth is in any of these statements. I do plan on making a purchase anytime between now and late March.

Diamond prices fluctuate for a whole host of reasons. In fact, one could argue that peak demand may drive prices down.I'd not worry about the season/month. The trend I've seen is that diamond move quickly during holiday periods where non-holiday periods some stones might be around for weeks. In the runup to Dec 25, it seemed the the inventory was so low that it was very very hard to find a good stone. Now, the inventory is up and more options within a budget that perform well can be found. Personally, I'd rather buy when inventory is good to get more options.

During Valentines, Black Friday, and Christmas seasons, many vendors offer some discount on diamonds and settings. And the inventory is up. In theory, it sounds amazing.
In reality, you face some serious competition. Eye-clean diamonds with ideal proportions and no fluo get snatched really quickly.
You just keep looking year-round and find a stone you love within your budget. This is especially true if you are buying a diamond with popular specs (1.0c or 2.0c, I~G, SI1~VS1).
If I have to pick a time, the best time is late Oct and early-mid Nov. Why? Vendors should be getting ready for Black Friday and Christmas. But dudes are so lazy and unplanned to buy diamonds so early for Dec 25th proposal. We think we can just to go a store with 5k and find a sparkly diamond

Here's what Paul Slegers said in another thread, that you might find helpful, as well as the thread itself which you might want to read.

Hi,

I am going to limit my answer to diamonds only.

Not truly related to the topic of Valentine's, although I agree that the holiday or festivity as such should not have an effect on price.

In a bigger perspective however, unrelated to Valentine's as such, we see diamond-production overall decreasing worldwide in the past months. This comes together with a revived optimism and high appetite for diamonds in the Far East. As a result, availability of diamonds in certain combinations of size, color and clarity is decreasing, and sellers are gradually trying to fetch higher prices.

If this situation persists, you can expect overall higher diamond prices later this year, possibly already soon.

Live long,

That said, it is a good practice to propose within your return policy, as a general rule. So I would keep that in mind.

We don't close threads or delete them (absent drama). We leave them up to help others. One of PS's most underutilized features is its search function. =)2
