How Good is this ASET Image for 1.54CT? Need Expert Advice!

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a 1.54CT/H/SI2/Excellent Cut diamond I found online. Since I can't physically see it, I'm relying on other assessment methods (e.g., GIA cert, HCA, ASET). It's HCA score is <2. I don't know much about diamonds, but based on what I've been reading so far, I think its ASET images look great. My concern is the bits of white on the edges...from what I gather they show indicate light leakage. These small bits on the edges are usually not excellent, but they're at least green. That said, would you say the attached ASET / Hearts & Arrows images are Exceptional, Excellent, Decent, or Bad? Any other input? Worth buying at US$10K?

I know I've pestered you guys enough, but I was hoping I could trouble you once more to take a look at the images and provide your expert insight. I'll post them under a different thread since it relates to a different diamond. I appreciate all your help with a decision that is so significant to me. Thanks again!

The ASET looks decent, not excellent....looks like pavilion angles vary greatly. This is NOT an Hearts & Arrows stone, not even close.

Post the lab report, may be Excellent cut, but that is a very broad scope to many labs. If you can, try to get a full Sarin Report to see how all angles measure up.

Re: How Good is this ASET Image for 1.54CT? Need Expert Advi

Looks ideal proportions however not a true H and A stone but close enough who cares anyway, worry more about the SI2

Re: How Good is this ASET Image for 1.54CT? Need Expert Advi

No clue who C-K thinks he is...but that aset looks great! It is, however, not enough, a lab report and pictures would be better. Especially since you're buying online. Are you open to other options? It's possible this is a gorgeous stone though! The stone, just for your FYI doesn't have "leakage" the center is nice and read and the very very very tiny triangles that are white on the sides are never enough "leakage" for anyone to turn the stone away! I believe it's something called painting? If you do search for that tearm you'll find threads that talk about it, but it's aboslutely NO reason not to buy the stone. Just for example:

This stone is from one of our top vendors

http://www.agslab.com/pdf_sync_reports/104064362021-PGRH.PDF

but the white you see in your aset is in this one as well, just shows a little more gray, but it's the same thing. Again, *NOTHING* to worry about.

Wow thanks for the feedback! I've attached a copy of the cert (it's 1.51 not 1.54ct) as well as picture. As you can see, the picture has visible inclusions, but I received confirmation that they are clean to the naked eye (which is my concern). Thoughts?

Well you have to keep in mind, this picture is blown up a lot. May I ask where you're getting it from? It faces up pretty nice, but yeah, I'd check on the clarity which if you said you did and they confirmed that it is definitely clean, then I wouldn't worry about it. Do they have a good return policy?

Re: How Good is this ASET Image for 1.54CT? Need Expert Advi

Maybe its eye clean if your 80 years old…. big black inclusion in the table flag…. .!
Everyone says eye clean how many really mean it , my sister had a black VS2 in the table and could see it

Re: How Good is this ASET Image for 1.54CT? Need Expert Advi

The computer generated ASET looks great. However, the CG generated image for the hearts patterning isn't that ideal. If you are looking for H&A, this might not be the stone for you.

Some people will be able to see the black inclusion on close inspection, I suspect that many will not. What is most important for you is that you have the ability to see and return if you are one of those who can.

Re: How Good is this ASET Image for 1.54CT? Need Expert Advi

The picture makes the inclusions very visible, however actual size until you see it in person you will not know...the crystal makes the clarity grade at the top, so that inclusion may be visible.

Make sure you have a good return policy, when in hand you will know if it is a keeper.....regardless of all the pictures/ASET/report/etc it is the stone itself you are buying.

Re: How Good is this ASET Image for 1.54CT? Need Expert Advi

In shadowed lighting the black will stand out more, its black its in the table , its close to the surface , its not a good SI2
reject it …

Re: How Good is this ASET Image for 1.54CT? Need Expert Advi

the white bits at the edge is normal.

Wow thanks for all the input! It was tough to hear about the inclusion since I had placed an order but can swap it out...what are your thoughts about getting this 1.31CT/SI1/H with an HCA score of 0.8 instead...better? (see attached pics) Based on the attached pics, the ASET seems to indicate it'll be very brilliant (which is my main requirement), no? The H&A images seems to look descent at best though. The price is about $1.5K cheaper. Thoughts? I'm looking to pull the trigger tomorrow, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

As an alternative, there's also a 1.28 Blue Nile Signature Ideal Cut/SI1/H (stock #LD02084410), but the price per carat seems too steep for me. Thanks!

Based just on your pictures, the clarity looks much better in this stone, need to make sure it is eye clean by your definition and again, need to see in person if it passes your requirements....As far as that Blue Nile stone, I would move up to a AGSL Ideal cut, then you get the best cut, no need to worry, look at a H I or maybe a J color in a SI1 clarity....check out what Whiteflash, Infinity, Brian Gavin or GOG have, you will never be sorry you picked a AGSL Ideal cut.

Wish I had known about them earlier. Thanks for the tip. This process is so difficult without seeing live and comparing. But, based on the 1.31ct images I sent, would you say it's worse than this diamond from White Flash below?

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2972960.htm

The HCA score for the WhiteFlash stone is >3…would the 1.31ct GIA (HCA=0.8) mentioned in my previous post be brighter? What are your thoughts comparing their ASET images, etc.? Again, I wish I could see them both and compare, but I'm faced with a choice of going blind on this with only HCA/ASET/Pics and your expertise as guidance. Thanks again! I'm looking to decide tomorrow afternoon. Thanks!

That patircular stone has quite a bit of leakage in the center (the gray in the ideal scope and the darkness in the center on the aset).

This one's better:

Re: How Good is this ASET Image for 1.54CT? Need Expert Advi

I am wondering about the accuracy of the scans used to generate those images.
Either the scans are bad or that cutter cuts some really sloppy lower halves.
Do you have any real is/aset/heart images?

Leaky as heck! I'd stay away from that WF stone. Can easily see the leakage in the middle.

Just wondering.. how the heck did that stone get AGS000??

The pictures for the 1.3ct were sent to me by B2C Jewels. While I'm on the topic, I just wanted to say thanks again for all of the input; it really influenced my decision. That said, I went with this one: http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-4414473-1.30-carat-Round-diamond-H-color-SI1-clarity.aspx...I hope I like it when I see it. I have to say that, although I haven't received the product, B2C Jewels' salesperson, Rio, was INCREDIBLY patient with me...I know it's a business and they're trying to sell, but I got a very different experience from other major online vendors...B2C really placed a strong emphasis on customer service and invested a lot of time on my order(probably 4-5 hours at least once you add up all the phone/e-mail exchanges). Now, I'm just patiently waiting for my order to arrive so I can see the diamond and make the final call. I'm at work now, so I have to keep my review brief. But, if you have any other questions re: my experience with B2C, please let me know. Thanks!

Likely a borderline Ideal, that is why it is not 'A Cut Above' does not meet their specs. Could look great, but even as tight as AGS grading of Ideal is, there is a drop off point. Whiteflash has their sweetspot for AGS Ideals.
