Hi everyone!

I''ve been lurking for a while and been enjoying PS so much...it''s time to sign on and say hihi!

I have been lusting over the Tiffany Ribbon Ring as a RHR for a while, and with having just reached a significant career milestone, I figure this is the perfect excuse (um, I mean, reason...or occassion
9.gif
) for me to get one as gift to myself to mark this milestone!

I''m thinking of may be around half carat, so it won''t overpower my e-ring on my left hand (a 1.16 RB solitaire in a custom 6 prong palladium wg setting with 2.3mm subtle knife-edge shank, which I wear with the matching plain knife-edge band). It''s the design of the ribbon ring I LOOOOVVVEEE
30.gif
, not the blue box...and definitely not the huge mark-up! (I know I can get stone with better cut / quality elsewhere and pay half of what Tiffany charges, but with the design of the ribbon holding the stone, I feel it may be very difficult to duplicate that to perfection!)

So here is the specs of the centre stone I''m interested in (there is also 0.30 tcw of RBs on the beadset channel on the ribbons and top half of shank). I got Tiffany to check their worldwide inventory (I''m not in US) with this design in around half carat range, and this looks like the best one. I would have been ok with G colour, but everything else they have in G in this range is VS1 or VVS, and actually cost more than the F VS2!! so I figure I''d go for a higher colour (I''m quite colour sensitive and can see colour diff quite well), rather than better clarity which I can''t see.

RB 0.52 F VS2
5.26 x 5.22 x 3.17
table 57
depth 60.5
crown angle 34.5
pav % 43.1 (it calculates to 40.76 degres using average diameter)
girdle thin-med
culet none
fluro none
cut ex
polish vg
sym vg
HCA 1.1 (ex, ex, ex, vg)
(I don''t have any pics of the stone, and haven''t seen it yet - but I will be going in armed with idealscope, h&a viewer and loupe)

Please let me know what you think about these numbers. Does this look like it would be as good as (or close to) the super-ideals we see on PS? Would really love to get opinion from PS''ers before I make the big purchase! Thanks everyone!

Hi miffy,

Good for you for treating yourself!

The stone looks like it definitely has potential. No glaring problems that I see. And since you will be able to view it with an IS, all the better.

I say go for it, and please let us know what you think!

I agree with Ellen. I think the Tiffany Riboon ring is soooo pretty....

Thritto! LOVE that design and we will gladly enable you to get it if you would like us to!

miffy, Hello!
35.gif

Frankly I am suprised that someone at Tco would actually take the time to go through inventory to find you specs on a stone in a ribbon ring. Kudos for customer service...

IMO, if you are looking at the ribbon ring, almost all of the diamonds that they will have in their settings will NOT be dogs, but will vary slightly, of course. To me, you like the setting and the quality, likely the name brand as well, so I think it's a nice choice. It's a really pretty ring, actually one of my favorites! So delicate and feminine to me...

Good luck with your purchase and ENJOY IT!!! Don't stress out about the diamond as much, because honestly, their stones are very similar and you are much more likely to get a similar stone, than a dog. Their standards have gone up in diamonds quite a bit in the last few years, and in the end, you are not buying it for that diamond as much as you are buying it for the setting and look, right?

ENJOY!!

Just wanted to say that I love the ribbon ring! I say go for it-and give us lots of handshots!

Thanks guys, and thanks for the enabling!

Nicrez, no, they didn''t go thru inventory to find specific specs for stones as such. It was the case that they didn''t have any half carat in the store, so they put in a request to check for what''s available in other stores. The list of options I received only had carat, colour and clarity info only - no cut info or any numbers at all. I could only get cut info on one ring which I have asked them to transfer in for me. And Yes, I am more after the setting and the look. I guess I was just concerned about the cut as my e-ring was pre-PS and before I knew to put cut at the top of the 4Cs

Glad to hear I shouldn''t need to worry about the quality of the Tiffany stone that much, as I think I may be using the IS incorrectly. When I tried to use the IS at home with the calibration CZ that came with it, I was surprised that, to me, the table looked quite light/pale
33.gif
(while expecting bright red like those WF IS images we see here!). Guess may be I was using the IS at home under the wrong lighting. I was just concerned that what if I''m at looking at the actual ring in person and can''t tell if what i''m seeing thru the IS is good or not?? (esp since everything looks bright and sparkly under those lights!)

Unless you permanently mount the Ideal Scope to the top of your ring I would not worry about it in the slightest. For an engagement ring I don't think I would often RECOMMEND TCo to a random person on a budget, but when you get into the styles and looks that you adore, then I think it's a lovely option. Their quality is far above that of most stores, and clearly their designs are popular and beloved. Imitation is the highest level of flattery and there is no one more copied than Tiffany & Co...

The diamonds are given a bad rap here, because people buy modern cuts with H&A, and many of the buyers on PS are not only looking for deals, but also an extremely exacting precision of cut. When buying a Tiffany ring, neither is a priority for the typical customer. But the diamonds are always beautiful, IF you are not comparing it to stones that are in another category. If you compare it to the 90% of stones in the market, they are certainly the highest quality and cut. But here on PS, people are skewed to the top 10% (at MOST) of the industrie's modern round brilliants and nothing will compare to something with a hearts and arrows then. But don't put it in the same category, because IMO they are NOT.

See it in person. Take it to the window. Each stone is different (even rounds) and you will find one you fall in love with. In the end you won't seperate the stone from the setting, so the stone is worth next to nothing without the setting, so love your setting...

I tried on that style of ring when I was e-ring shopping, its very pretty and would make a lovely RHR. Very feminine.

This ring is one of my all-time favorites, too! I think the style and size of the stone you''ve chosen is perfect for a RHR, and the numbers look good from my novice point of view. Pretty please, come back with pictures!

That ring is such a beautiful flowing design...I look forward to living vicariously through your purchase!!

The specs on the stone look fine, I hope you come back with pictures!!!
