i am very close to finally homing in on a single rock now, but I also want to know how would I chose a setter? I am looking for a knifed edge setting like what mondera.com provides. click here.

what are some of the things i should beware when choosing the setter, is it safe to have them set it out of your sight? I guess my main concern is that how can i trust anyone with my diamond after it has been appraised (even the idea of getting it appraised out of sight makes me uncomfortable)

more importantly, you need to worry about the stone chipping, etc, during the setting process. God forbid...but it happens. Setters who did not sell you the stone will take NO responsibility. So make sure it is insured b/f it is set or have the seller set it. Also, a lot of jewelers will set it in front of you.

Setters do their work out of the sight of most of us. If you are lucky enough to have someone willing and able to do the job while you watch, that would be great. Most people will not find this possible to accomplish.

We do this work for people who want a reliable place to handle the process, but very few people we work for live close enough to see it happen.

Ask around. One of your friends or family members may just happen to know the right person for you.

oh well! My old jeweler let us watch...but then again his stones stunk...so little good that did...lol

i would get recommendations from people you know...even ask here..there maybe someone in your area from PS that knows of a good setter. would it be possible to have the vendor of the stone set it?

Have you considered buying the setting from the same vendor as the stone? They then can set it and will often guarantee their work. IMO, the process gets much simpler if you get it all from one place, but it isn't a requirement. Ask around for good references if you choose to have it set locally, and learn to identify your stone through a loop. (by inclusions an/or an inscription).

Like Lop suggested, I'd just ask the jeweler you're buying the stone from if they can get the settting you want. The Mondera setting is a fairly common one.

Hi,

As suggested, try to have the diamond set by the diamond seller and if possible purchase the ring from them as well.

This keeps the chain of responsibility very clear

thereby increasing the likelyhood of your satisfaction with the finished product.
