My Story! I am 24 and have been looking for a diamond for about two months now and I still am having trouble with what I should get.

Here are my 4 C''s: 2 Carat, SI2 or better, I color or better, Excellent cut or better.

I have been going to two different stores (Jared and Diamond Cutters International) and also looking online.

At DCI, I was told I should buy a class II diamond. They told me that most diamonds I see at chains stores are class III diamonds and will not have the sparkle, brilliance, and fire that a class II will provide. Is it true that these diamonds are all class III diamonds?

At Jared''s, they have been trying to sell me their peerless diamond. They say that there is no other diamond like it. It has an AGS triple zero and triple Very High light performance. How does this compare to an Ideal cut diamond that Jared and other retailers are selling? Whas Cut class does an Ideal cut diamond fall under (1,2,3, etc)?

Finally, I have also been looking at the LEO diamond. How does it compare to the others I have talked about?

Can you please help find the diamond that is right for my lovely lady? I really want to give her a nice diamond I can afford.

Also, do you know where the best place is to look for settings?

Thank you guys for all your help, I truly appreciate it!

JT

Here is an excellent review done by Richard Sherwood one of the PS Appraisers. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/review-of-a-leo-cut.17770/ I would also read the tutorials up top under knowledge. If you tell us your budget we can help you look?? Welcome to Pricescope

Here on Pricescope there are lots of great vendors and this forum will help you find the best stone.

What shape of stone were you looking at? What type of cert did they have?

Also, you may want to use the search function to look up Fred Cuellar - he''s the "man behind the curtain" at DCI.

The specs for cut grades can be found at the Accredited Gem Appraisers site. DCI is nuts. You can buy cut grade 1 and 2 at B&M like Jared. They are feeding you a line. AGS0 typically fall in the grade 1 cut. However, you''ll pay more at a B&M. I''d buy online. If you give your budget here and any other particular criteria you have the folks here on PS will help. Good luck.

So.. you are looking for a minimum of 2 carats, I colour, SI2 clarity and Excellent cut.

You might find the Holloway Cut Advisor (HCA) useful to weed out any stones which might not necessarily be quite as well cut, based on their proportions and angles:

As the others have answered your questions with regard to comparing cut grades etc I thought I would post a few diamonds for you to look at:

2.065ct I SI2 ACA H&A $17,783 before discount

2.054ct I SI1 ACA H&A $19,621 before discount

2.025 I VS2 ACA H&A $21,555 before discount

The stones above are all from Whiteflash and are from their A Cut Above (ACA) range. They are all graded AGS0 Ideal cut - and many PSers would say that you couldn''t really find better in terms of cut. The ACA range are all amaaaaazing diamonds.

There are some higher colour stones available at GoodOldGold.. also all amazing cuts:

2.09ct H SI1 H&A $21,681 after discount
2.01ct H VS2 H&A $24,605 after discount

If you want a real bargain, you could get this beautifully cut diamond which sneaks in at just under 2cts, has strong fluorescence and a lovely colour/clarity combination of G VS2... yummy!!

1.87ct G VS2 H&A $19,825 after discount

Welcome!

The best thing is to concentrate on cut quality, so if you confine your search to AGS0 and GIA Excellent cut grade, that should make finding a stunning diamond for your lady easier. You can use the Pricescope your Diamond tool above, enter your desired specs, then hit cut quality search. This will bring up diamonds which have been tried and tested for performance and should be worth considering.

Since you asked,

I am looking for a round diamond. My budget is around $20000.
