Hello all. I'd like to contact Scott Kay (the company) to have a ring I bought from Robbins Brothers corrected. I can't seem to get a hold of anyone from their website. I've emailed them 3 times and never heard back. What I would like to do is send them the engagement ring and have them fix the prongs. Robbins Bros. didn't do a very good job of setting the stone. It's not terrible or anything but the diamond looks slightly crooked and the prongs do not look the same (length wise). I potentially will need to resize the ring from 5.5 to 5.25 and I'm really hesitant to have Robbins Brothers work on it again. It may be simple but I don't want them to mess up the symmetry. I don't know what it's called but you know how the ring gets thinner towards the bottom? I want it done right and hopefully Scott Kay can do it.

I got the ring as a special order, made to fit my diamond, which I got from James Allen.

Well I just can't believe their "master goldsmith" can do such a shotty job. I watched him do it, he paid little attention to the way it should look. He just cut the prongs a little, shoved the diamond in, pryed them a little and cleaned it up.

Thanks!

Well, Scott Kay isn't likely to accept your ring unless it comes back through the jeweler you bought it from. Why didn't you have Robbins Bros. send the stone to Scott Kay to set for you? SK may not touch it since you had RB set it. I think your only recourse is to ask RB if they will send it to SK for you.

Hi There,

I have a Scott Kay ring myself & wasnt set very well either. The stone, thankgoodness is straight, just the prongs were chopped flat, not rounded at all. They are sharp & awful. I also went down this road with Scott Kay back in 2003 & their stance then was that they in fact delivered the right ring, at the right size & brand new. The responsibility was with the jeweler & the poor workmanship they provided so it was in fact, an issue that the jeweler would have to fix. If I wanted a new crown put in, would cost about $500 or so. Crazy! I just live with it. Otherwise, it''s a gorgeous ring. As angry as I was & wanted some retribution for the problem, Scott Kay wasnt the one at fault, it was the jeweler. I found out a while back that if a benchman has a laser welder, I could get a new crown made & put in for less than having it sent to Scott Kay. I didnt bother. But if my stone was not set straight, that would for certain bug me & I would have to get it fixed.
I hope things have changed in 4 1/2 yrs but not sure that Scott Kay would do anything about it. There is a private number for customer service, & I''m sorry now that I didnt keep it. I remember calling & the lady answering was like..."how did you get this number?". LOL She didnt want to talk to me at all, said I had to go through their authorized dealer. Ya, thanks a lot.

Bottom line to all that buy from a designer, & the jeweler wants to send the stone to be set **by the designer**, take the extra time to do it. If there is a problem, they can be held accountable.

Please keep us updated, I am really curious how this all turns out.

Thanks for the replies. I initially wanted Scott Kay to set the diamond but Robbins Brothers insisted on doing the job as they guarantee (or warranty) rings purchased from them. I thought it would be convenient to get it serviced through them whenever I had to.

I don''t expect Scott Kay to fix it for free, I''m willing to pay a fee for their service. I''m going to try contacting a couple of authorized dealers to see if they can arrange the service for me. I''ll keep you updated, thanks.

Contact Bill Pearlman @ Pearlmans, he''s SUPER nice & very willing to help out. He''ll tell it to you straight about what would be involved in getting Scott Kay to fix it for you.

He carries Scott Kay so he''s a great contact.

I''m sorry that Robbins Bros. were FOS. These objects are "just" metal & diamonds, but that always translates to a lot of emotional attachment too. You''ll get it fixed, & have a gorgeous ring. :-) So...where are the pictures? LOL Thats almost the law here you know. You cant post & not have pics.

I just called Pearlmans and a rep was able to assist. He''s going to get me a quote today. Thanks for the suggestion, they are well mentioned on this site so I think I''ll give them a shot.

I went to Robbins Brothers today to ask for a refund on the setting fee. I spoke with the General Manager and to my surprise she kindly offered to send it to Scott Kay for me free of charge. She handed me over to the Operations Manager who filled out all the paperwork and I was done. I should get it back in a couple of weeks. I hope it turns out ok. =) She was really shocked when I told her the "master jeweler" set the ring for me yesterday.

Good to know the company took responsibility & will eat the cost Scott Kay charges them, as it should be. But as long as they keep selling their min. amount $$$ set by Scott Kay, they will continue to represent them. Either way, you will get it fixed. But for the band, contact Bill. LOL LOL

I finally got my ring back and it looks good... thanks to.................. PEALRMANS

Robbins Bro !@#$ it up again on the 1st try to Scott Kay. It came back shorter and they never fixed the crooked prongs. All they did was cut it short and remounted. PEARLMANS speculate that RB never sent it to Scott Kay due to the shotty job that was done. I gave up on them in early December and I called PEARLMAN'S. They worked with me and help me send it to Scott Kay. I got an initial quote of about $600 at first but PEALRMANS was able to get my ring's head replaced for a small fee ($125). Not only did PEARLMAN asist as the middleman but they also did the quality check for me. They received the ring last Thursday but Jason (the person who helped) did the quality check. He discovered that the prong was too loose and shipped it right back to Scott Kay. Turn around time for that was 1-2 days. He got the ring back on Saturday and shipped it to me next day yesterday.

When I wrote my first message, I was going to propose on Nov 3rd. I have had to postpone until I got the ring back, it's been a long waiting process but I'm happy that I can move on to the next step. I would definitely recommend these guys and look forward to purchasing the matching band from them later.

Oh my gosh! You poor thing! I am so glad Pearlman's was able to help you, but how terrible your proposal had to be postponed so long! What a great guy you are, though, to have the ring perfect before you give it to her!

Please don't forget to post pictures for us! And go ahead and PROPOSE!!!

I''ll take some pictures as soon as the clouds go away. I''m in Los Angeles and it''s raining for goodness sakes, how can that be??!
