How did you spend NYE?

Aww atroop and Pandora, sorry to hear you and your families are unwell! Hope you're all well and truely on the mend :wavey:

DH and I stayed at a cute Bed & Breakfast along the coast and met up with 3 other couples who were staying at a caravan park not far from us. The 8 of us walked uptown to a restaurant and then back down to the beach for a swim at about 11pm (the day was 43 deg celcius, and at 11pm the temperature was still 29!) and to watch the fireworks. On the way back we ran into a carnival show and jumped on a few rides... haven't done THAT for years!! Over the bay we could see the fireworks in Melbourne (to all the Aussies, we were in Portarlington, so it was a really clear night!!). It was fantastic, and so warm, it was lovely to be able to walk everywhere at that time of night.
Overall, a wonderful time had by all! Loved it. Happy New Year everyone!! :appl: :appl:

We had a party with about twenty of our closest friends. Stayed up until about 4 AM. It was a blast! I am SO OVER 2010.

My fiance and I went out to dinner, and then we went to my parents' house. I fell asleep on the couch, and didn't wake up until about 15 minutes before the ball dropped.

It wasn't very exciting, but for some reason, I didn't have much energy, so I didn't really feel like doing much. It was still nice, and I'm happy that I was able to kiss my fiance at midnight. :)

We went to my in-laws for dinner and then they dropped us back home and our neighbours came in for a few drinks to ring in new years. We went out onto the road at midnight and looked at the fireworks. Nice and quiet!

I slept through most of it. My husband was up watching hockey and at 11:55 he woke me up (I was so mean to him because I was tired and grumpy) because he wanted a kiss. I promptly fell alseep again at 12:05 I think. I've been on call all week, so the perfect NYE is catching up on some sleep!

My husband is a bartender and the last number of years has always worked on New Years. That was the plan this year, but a coworker begged for the spot. So instead of making money we decided blew it out instead.
The grandparents took our kids to a (kid oriented) party until 9 pm, we got dressed up and walked to a local French restaurant. First time I had raw oysters in years. Very decadent and enjoyable meal. Kids got back home (they had a great time), we put them in bed, and then I read in bed, falling asleep around 10:30. I feel no need whatsoever to stay up till Midnight, on New Years or any other day for that matter.

I work on NYE every year -- it's a good night to work in general - I work in a restaurant and we serve dinner and a show with a musical performer. People are in a good mood mostly, and they're usually pretty drunk, but in a fun way.

One year out of the last 10 I DIDN'T work, and went out instead. It sucked. I spent a lot of money and was generally annoyed by all the drunk people - I've been working NYE ever since. Now it's out of necessity, but I still prefer working to going out. the only thing that is difficult is that we don't usually get out of work until 2:30 a.m. and we were back in for brunch today at 9 a.m. I feel a little loopy right now :twirl: :twirl: :twirl:

ETA: i do get to kiss my husband at midnight though, because he works right down the street from me and runs half a block for the midnight count down each year. Then he runs right back to work - he's such a sweet guy

The last part about your hub running down to kiss you at midnight is just cute! DH had to work on NYE but he made sure to make it home before midnight so we could be together.

Well, we had reservations to go out and wouldn't you know it, I got SHINGLES for Christmas :nono: , and haven't been feeling that well. I agreed to go out even tho I wasn't feeling well and told my husband we would leave right after dinner, no dancing or socializing....next thing I knew it was 2 am....I stayed in bed all day Saturday, but honestly I had a blast Friday nite.

I hope you feel better soon Amber!

Labelling and putting a years worth of photos into albums. About 1,000 photos. I got behind and ended up getting all of them done that day...took me about 8 hours. I was dizzy when I was done! But I felt accomplished while my head was spinning. I finished up about 1/2 hour before midnight, right when my DH got out of work. Then we sat there and watched the ball drop on the couch. We gave our dog a milkbone at midnight then went to bed. We've never been big new year celebrators.

Thank you very much--I am feeling better today, but haven't hit the gym yet...I think I'll try THAT tomorow..I was fortunate, i know some people who have really suffered with shingles, but I've had a relatively mild case so far.

DandiAndi, goodness, that's the stuff of fantasies!!!
To the sick ones, that's horrible. Flu, bronchitis and shingles be gone - hope you are all feeling better.

Well, sweetness asked me what I'd liked to do and I said 'Let's go on a mellow bar crawl', not having tried that on New Year's eve in Brussels before. We walked from his place to the centre of town, 45 mins, before we found a.... single..... bar..... open!!! Grrrrr.

We still had a great time, with the town centre being quite vibrant. Best pita falafel in the universe on the medieval town square followed by a nice glass of fizz in a bar sharing a table with a very nice couple from New Jersey. She worked voluntarily in hospices with her lovely dog - they are both qualified for 'animals as therapy' work.

That's the nice thing about pottering around cafés and bars in a not very heavy drinking culture over a long evening, lots of walking in the fresh night air and interesting strangers to meet.

A very happy and productive 2011
