So we all agree that everyone differs in HOW MUCH, but let''s see if these people paid with credit, cash, or personal help... Just sort of curious how people can afford such rings.

I saved and saved and saved my Mad Money until I'd stashed enough in the Miracle Whip jar!

credit card with cash rewards

- (but I had enough cash to pay the balance all at once)

I like credit cards for a big purchase because you can dispute charges if the item is not as advertised.

Ah, another "point pig". I try to pay large amounts with my credit card that gives me cash towards a car. And, I pay it off every month.

That said, CASH.

Same as derlinka. Credit card but we pay off our credit cards every month. This is for my recent ring...We paid cash for engagement ring. He said he had $1000 to use from savings but if I wanted something more expensive, he'd put it on credit. Our first solitare was $895. (This was a million years ago.)

I hate to pay for things on credit. I'm fine with paying it off right away, but we never carry a balance.

pq, I have the Miracle Whip jar going for my wedding ring diamond upgrade. I think I have $75 so far!

Rules for the miracle whip jar: any loose change around the house is fair game. any time I use a coupon, what I saved goes in the jar. I put around a dollar a day in it - don't miss it.

I'm a loose change hound (just ask my husband

). At Christmas I stage a treasure hunt for my nephews, who then have to divide it equally between themselves (as a math and sharing challenge

). It's one of their favorite parts of Christmas, so I doubt they would let me hijack this tradition for diamonds unfortunately.

Oh -- we paid cash.

My husband paid for my ring in cash.

We have a loose change jar too. It's amazing how just a little change here and there can really add up.

I am such a slave to my damned Citibank Aadvantage miles credit/debit card. I won't use credit cards not backed by my own checking account anymore.

First card was at 17 (on my own name) and franlky, I don't want to be in debt AT ALL EVER AGAIN!

I have been known to charge a bottle of water on my card just to get the 2 miles/for ever $1 spent, so we can go to Hawaii on miles...granted it may be by our 50th anniversary, BUT I WILL GET THOSE MILES!!!!

Cash! But we paid cash for our autos,so I'd feel stupid paying for jewelry on payment plan or credit card.I hate finance charges.

Cash...took eight years of saving, but I got that upgrade on my own (my choice). We each have our own kitty...his is for antique guns, mine is for jewelry.

I know my husband used lay-a-way with no interest. It was a family jeweler. Not a bad deal.
