how much did the stone cost?

Diamond wise ... the number looks good.

Price wise ... not too bad but you could have gotten this for probably $500 cheaper.

If clarity and color are at the utmost importance to you, then seems like a good stone. But for getting the best bang for your buck, a compromise in color and clarity a bit could get you a noticeably larger and still beautiful stone. But if you're aware of that but don't care because the idea of a high color and clarity is more important, then that's OK too :))

Both the color and clarity are really high, as in too high for the human eye to appreciate. There's nothing wrong with that if that's important to you, and you can rest easy that you have a stone with better color/clarity than the majority of people out there.

Value wise, downgrading to something like F VS2 would get you a really nice stone that's noticeably larger (if you care about size, that is), and if you put the two together, nobody would be able to tell the difference after it's set (not even many jewelers without a loupe)

D color is awesome - I have one because I wanted one. And I love it.

That said, I also have several G's and an I-J-K range OEC. The G's face up nice and white by themselves, but right next to my D yes I can tell the difference.

I agree that the clarity is overkill, though - you are paying a *lot* for something you literally can't see, and clarity at that level, down through the VS range, has no effect on the light performance of the stone.

Thank you all for the replies! I know the color and clarity were a little overboard as the eye really can't pick up the difference between them and some lower scaled stones. However, this size is just about as big as I wanted to go, considering the rest of her jewelry. I didn't want to outdo her ring! I wanted the highest quality stone in that size that I could afford. I expect it to be passed down from generation to generation as well. It sure does sparkle!

So, what is the next step? Should I have it insured? If so, do I need an independent appraisal?

Again, thanks for all the help!

Is this an e-ring? If so, it should outdo all her other jewelery!

This stone is for a pendant!! It looks great! Her e-ring is almost twice the size of this stone. Definitely don't want this stone to outdo the e-ring stone!

Thanks for all the replies! She really loves the pendant. I bought a matching pendant for her daughter too! What a mother's day!
