How did I do? Please reassure loose stone purchase!

Hi All.

This forum is an incredible resource and I have learned a ton. I have purchased a loose stone from a local jeweler, looked great to me. Here is the report:




The only oddity to me was that the report was dated 2007. The local store had only had it for 2 months, but I'm not sure what journey the stone has had for the last 6 years.

Thoughts? This whole thing is very anxiety provoking!

scores well on the HCA and the other numbers are good, clarity and color are both nice ways to save money but are still save bets the recipient will love it. Nice side, noticeably bigger than a 1 ct. assuming you paid a fair price i say well done!

Thanks! I got it for $7600 which seemed fair for a local place/perks that come with it. What do you think of the 2007 dated GIA report? Is that odd?

The report could have been older because it could have been sitting in a diamond vendors inventory for years before anyone purchased it. This can happen because it was overpriced and if they lowered the price then a store purchased it. It also could have been a trade in or have been in someone else's ring and they have upgraded or sold the stone for some reason. Does the report look old/creased etc or new? The stone and the report could have sat in someone's safe for years, and then they decided to sell it. It does look new in your pics and the stone itself looks fine.

Report looked nice and new. I was going to sent it to GIA for a recertification and laser inscription, but the turnaround is 35-40 business days, cant wait 2 months for it.

I sent my diamond into GIA about 3 weeks ago and they turned it around in 7 business days. I would call and ask what their wait time is.

While the stone is still loose, do you think it is worth it to send it back to GIA for an updated certification and laser inscription?

Is there any indication that the diamond you have isn't the same one as the cert?

Why not just find an independent appraiser? You'd probably have to do that anyway for insurance purposes.

No I absolutely trust the local place, it was more for my piece of mine/security to have the laser inscription.

Looks to me like a fabulous diamond at a great price. While the cert is 2007, the diamond is thousands of years older!! Unless the diamond had an 'incident' in its previous setting, its not likely anything would have changed. By "incident' - I mean could that feather have spread by being bumped somehow? Setting in a secure mount would minimize risk to incurring a chip, so it is an option to select a setting that protects that feather inclusion.

If it would make it a mind clean thing for you, then a re cert may make you more comfortable. According to the pdf price list, it could be $105 dollars well spent!
