Pictures are here:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/help-which-large-rb-would-you-pick-which-is-cut-better.84011/

I''m going to go with the larger of the two stones, a 4.5 ct, very warm colored RB. I don''t think I''m going to recut it, I''m afraid it would crack, and it''s a family heirloom.

I like simple settings and I''d like to set the stone as low as possible, basically with the culet almost touching my finger. My favorite is the superbcert tiffany replica.

I also like the ritani endless love solitaire, but I have two concerns: (1) the stone in that is set a lot higher than I''d like and (2) will the micropave make my stone look more yellow in comparison?

How would YOU set this monster stone? Does anyone have large RB solitaires with thin simple settings to show me? I''d like to see as many ideas as possible.

Thanks!

Thanks Dreamer. I like that a lot actually, but it looks like there might be a little cathedral, (or if that''s not the right term, a gap between where the band hits the top part of the basket, and the finger) which is something I don''t want - I want the band to be as low as possible as well. Any more angles on this?

It has a really subtle cathedral, which I personally adore. Let me see if I can track down Harriet''s thread, she has a honkin'' rock too, and it looks STUNNING in this setting.

Do a search for another Leon, by a poster named LE (I think). She had a solitaire made without the cathedral arms, and the stone sat very low. It''s a KILLLLLLER ring, and with a 4.5 carat honker, ohmyword and bestillmybeatingheart!!!

I like that rope-ish style shank, too, but IMVHO, the Leon oozes classic and timeless, and it's the simple shank that is a large part of what makes that happen. Not to say a rope-like shank wouldn't be beautiful, but it wouldn't be the same *classic solitaire* look as the one LE has. Personally, I wouldn't change a thing about LE's ring, I think that setting is TDF, perfection in platinum!

Again, just my humble 2 cents!

Ditto but with double prongs by LM.
Mmmmm, yeah, baby, yeah!

Me loves me those double prongs, too...

but there is something so simplistically gorgeous about LE''s ring, personally, I honestly would not even double prong it. I think it would be stunning from the top view down, but from the side... ? The way the two (doubled) prongs have to rise up from the shank, 4 times around the stone... I dunno... might just be a little "too much", for that particular style. Again, JMVHO... (as Grandma used to say:) that and a dollar will get you a coffee at McDonald''s!

I read your other thread too, and I think you definitely made the right choice between those two stones! 4.5ct... WOW!!! :D

I would have chosen better clarity stone too, even though it isn''t as white as the other diamond - the larger stone is really pretty!

I genuinely like the mounting it''s in already and would probably be very tempted just to have it polished and made to look like new.

However, if you reaaaaally want a new mount, the Leon Mege classic solitaire which was posted is just stunning and would look absolutely divine with your giant diamond in it.

Of course, we will be needing lots of extra photos though.... :D

francesfarmer, i just linked to your other thread and i am glad to see you chose the 4.5! how wonderful that your diamond is big, beautiful, and best of all, a family heirloom!!

regarding the ritani - they will make the setting around your stone, so my guess is that they could use melee that match your stone in warmth and possibly alter the head to have your diamond sit low. i would recommend calling bill at pearlmans as he carries ritani and has worked with them for many years. he would know what they can do with the setting for you, and everyone at pearlman''s is a pleasure to speak with.

however, i would say a plain solitaire such as LE''s Leon would be PERFECT for your beauty! that would be my vote!

For that big baby I vote the elegance and grace and timelessness of LM all the way.
It will be divine simplicity but yet flash and give your gorgeous boulder center stage.
You are so lucky, enjoy! How nice too that it has been in the family over the generations lovely!

I love the Ritani, it''s one of my all time favorite settings but i''ve got to go with the trend and say with your stone, Leon all the way...

Leon all the way! I''m glad you went with that stone-it''s going to be a gorgeous, honking ring!

Did you talk to someone about recutting it? I''m just curious if the cutter told you it might break or if you''re personally worried about it. (And rightfully so-I would be worried, too!)

I can''t wait to see what you end up with-it''s going to be a stunner!

Thanks everyone!! So no votes for ritani or superbcert?

I love leon - I''d like a combination of

and

LE''s: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-wf-diamond-and-lm-setting.75981/page-2

The only thing I don''t like about #1 is the cathedral. But I think I''d perfer six prongs over four, to protect/hold the stone a little more. Any thoughts?

I don''t think I''m getting engaged ANY time soon (which is a pity only because I really want to wear this diamond, but I don''t want to use it as a RHR) but whenever I do get the ring reset I''ll be sure to share a photo shoot.
