How big for a DBTY style necklace? Input frm current owners?

I've been thinking/dreaming of a DBTY style necklace. I'm trying to decide what size stones I would like. I would like to go slightly larger, but I know that the culets can sometimes get a little pokey. This probably wouldn't bother me too much, but I have insanely sensitive skin so is likely to make it red/irritated if they stick out too much. Any thoughts from those who currently own and wear regularly on optimal stone size?

Thanks!

You normally can't feel the stones at all. I have one with 9 point stones and one with 14 point stones. I would say 12 points or larger would be my preference for a shorter one.

Thanks, diamond seeker.

I am actually thinking about 20 point stones. I've seen pictures of one or two that size and I thought they still looked nice and tasteful. Also, a friend of mine is getting divorced and is selling her rings. Her 7 stone band has high quality 20 pointers in it and she would have no issue with me taking it apart for the project, so it ends up being a win-win situation - I save money on high quality stones and she lets go of something she doesn't want.

I have a short version with 15 pointers and I sometimes feel the cutlets of the diamonds on the sides of my neck but they tickle more than annoy! I love the size I went with - it has enough presence without being too much for everyday wear. In fact, I haven't taken it off since I received it except to clean it and I've been layering other pieces with it (which is why I wanted a short version). I did try on the tiffany version with 18 pointers and it was stunning but it was over budget even at WF.

I also have a tiffany lariat necklace with an 18 pointer and I don't feel the culet. Good luck! Hope you come back with pictures after you decide!!! :wavey:

I have 20 pointers! They don't bother my skin :-) My thread has some pics for your reference:

You probably already know this, but when you have the stones set, remember that the necklace is going to roll and flip -- set the stones up down up down, etc.

Oh, 20 pointers would be fabulous! Just be sure you have seen bezels from the jeweler who makes it for you. Quality varies a lot.

ennui - I did NOT know that! Thank you!

I'm thinking of asking David Klass for a quote, but yes - will pay close attention to how bezels are done!

The resetting project is probably going to have to wait a little bit so I don't feel guilty for spending too much $$. (Let's face it - I'll feel guilty no matter what, but this just spreads the guilt out over time)
