Hello! First time poster here! I would love to get your thoughts on this diamond. It is certainly not perfect, but I''ve seen it in person, and it looks nice to me! You can see the two feathers in the right light, but I think I can live with it. It''s a very good price, understandably for the quality, however I''d love to know if you think it''s a decent buy.

From the GIA report -

Carat weight: 3.96
Cut: Good
Color: F
Clarity: I2
Depth %: 57.8%
Table %: 66%
Symmetry: Fair
Polish: Good
Girdle: Thin to Slightly Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Medium Blue
Measurements: 10.14 x 10.43 x 5.93 mm
Pavilion: 40.6%

Thanks so much!

pretty bad!!

how much?

$14,500

Is the diamond good enough to do something fun in a Leon Mege, etc.?

You''re thinking about buying an almost 4ct I2 stone with only "fair" symmetry for 14.5k?

Seriously, what kind of response are you looking for? Most people will say "RUN".

A couple of my non-diamond expert friends looked at it and thought it was a very pretty diamond, so I guess I thought it might be fun to have set in something interesting. Does everyone think that it is still overpriced at $14.5k? Or is the general recommendation not to buy it for any price?

This is my first posting, so please be kind to a newbie :).

Ditto. In no way is that worth it - what''s the point of a dull, ugly diamond?

If you have $14,500 to spend I''d get a killer stone. What about these?

YUM!!!

Have you thought about coloured diamonds? They could make for some fun and really really unique, gorgous pieces

Don''t buy it, not worth the 14.5K .... Stick around learn about cut, etc.... We''ll find you a great stone that is well cut, etc.... Welcome to PS!!!

Yikes, $14,500 on that? Most regular "non-diamond expert" individuals haven''t seen a spectactularly cut stone and I bet if you showed one of your friends a superb diamond like DancingFire provided a link too, they''re entire perspective would change!

And there's the key :) I strongly urge you to listen to the advice of the PROVEN diamond experts here on this board instead of your non-diamond expert friends! You'll end up with a far greater result! I agree with everyone so far - a diamond that large with an I2 clarity and "fair" or "good" properties just isn't worth it at all. You can do better, and you've already been provided some great alternatives :) Welcome to the boards!

You have a good chunk of money to invest in a diamond that will be beautiful. If you want a large bargain diamond then perhaps you can learn all about the 4 C''s, purchase and ideal scope, and search for your bargain at estate sales or second hand jewelry stores. But I would never spend over 1k on any diamond or diamond band unless it was eye clean. That is just me though.

That is a lot of money to waste on that diamond. Its big, sure, but that isn''t everything.

probably a fish-eye too.

First, definitely pass on this stone. Just not worth it at any price.

What I would probably do- heck, what I *did* in fact- to get the biggest possible stone is to drop the color a heck of a lot, and stick to eyeclean probably SI clarity. To get away with dropping the color, perhaps consider an antique cut. A lot of antique cut diamonds are lower color so it looks more "right" to have a slightly off white stone in an Old European Cut or Old Mine Cut.

The nice thing about dropping to lower colors is that it doesn''t affect the sparkle of the stone. As long as the cut is top notch, and it''s eyeclean, a lower color diamond is going to be just as sparkly as a well cut whiter stone. In fact because so many stones are poorly cut, a beautifully cut diamond is an eye catcher no matter the color, especially in larger sizes.

Just a thought. I wear a 3 1/2ct M colored Old European Cut, and I''ve never regretted choosing size over color.

I wouldn''t pay that for an I2 diamond of any size.
