Most of the diamonds I have looked at have had "VERY GOOD" polish and/or symmetry. I am currently looking at a stone with a "very good" cut (2.1 on HCA), but only a "GOOD" rating for polish and symmetry.

How important are these finish ratings? The diamond looks great to me, but could this be why it is coming at a bargain relative to prices I've seen elsewhere ($14k incl platinum setting, 2.1c, G, SI1)?

Any advice appreciated!

You probably want to look at the following pages to help make your decision:

Symmetry:

The difference between good and very good is not defined very well. It is very subjective. You cannot get AGS 000 without Exc/Exc, but I have seen wonderful diamonds that were only good/good.... I am not disposed to worry a whole lot about it until there is some visible effect. It varies on how much difference there will be.

Just to keep it simple on my AGA Cert's we only use Exc/Good/Fair/Poor. It is confusing enough without more categories and no definitions that are tight.
