First time post, I''ve been hunting for engagement rings online and at the local shops for a few months now.. My top guy is a ''diamond importer'' for whatever that means, he has a few small shops, mostly in those jewelry exchange places, anyway, he got some in and I liked this one, just wondering how it rates.. First time poster so be easy on me, but believe me, I appreciate any opinion I can get:

Princess
6.52x6.40x4.67
1.63 / H / VS2
77% Table
73% Depth
Slightly thin to thick
VG Polish / VG Sym
No Fl

His price was 6900 out the door mounted in a simple white gold tiffany style setting.

From what I''ve seen online, the price seems very good, what does everyone think? Should I pull the trigger on this one or hold out?

Thanks everyone, again, I appreciate it, I know you probably all hate seeing these "is this worth it" posts..

Note that with a table being so much larger than the depth you could have a stone that looks white and sparkly, and has a glassy ring around the center, we call a fisheye. On the positive, this stone will face up larger looking than it's carat weight by slightly more.

This is because depth should be slightly greater than table, and when it is not, the glassy ring appears because there is not enough depth at the right spots of the stone to infuse life in the stone. It WILL sparkle, but not have the optimal look of a "well cut" stone as seen in the measurements in this chart. AGA Princess Cut Charts

We usually say 70% is a larger side of princess stones for depth and table. More than that seems to be a more inefficient cut, but even so, with the right angles can still be a nice stone. It's just not an OPTIMAL stone. not everyone looks for a flawlessly cut stone. Some people want size for less, or just a white sparkly stone. I suggest viewing any shaped stone before buying. Also, such tests as Ideal Scopes can show how the light will react in your stone, and if an improper cut will allow light to "leak" through it, which reduces the overall sparkle...

Also read up on this interesting thread re: depth and table on princess cuts LINK Good luck and I know you can find some nice cuts!!

Also, the price you are getting is good, as it corresponds to the cut quality and the price is quite competitive.

A better cut princess can be found, but it won't be as inexpensive. Cut and finding it COST. Here are two from Dirtcheapdiamonds:

1.56ct, H, VS1, D=74.8, T=67 (6.63x6.30x4.71) for $7,842

1.58, E, VS1, D=68.1, T=64 (6.65x6.58x4.48) for $10,830

Both fall within the 1A cut range.

Thanks for the advice, I know that the numbers weren't great, but it doesn't seem that there are very many "good numbers" princesses out there.. Anyhow, it did look quite nice, and yes, it seemed large for the weight. I was trying to get a mix of 'good size' and good numbers.. I'm personally not a big fan of the princess, but 'she' is, and well, I'm not the one wearing it, but every princess I look at just seems so much smaller than any other round cut around the same size so I've been leaning towards the ones that were on the larger side..
