Not an expert but to me the IGI certificate is worrying - is it really an I colour etc etc. You can pay $280 to go to a big lab like GIA for overnight grading (In New York at least). Having said that, I thought a AGS certificate was worrying & the experts on here think AGS is a strong certificate. Don't think the diamond performs that well. It rates under a 2 on Holloway but only returned these results. I dont like the Very Good score on light & scintillation.
Light Return: Very Good
Fire: Excellent
Scintillation: Very Good
Spread or diameter for weight: Very Good
Not an expert though, just wanted to pay it forward what I learnt on here :)

I agree. The cut parameters are not what are usually recommended, it's too deep, for a start which will make it face up smaller. Stick with GIA XXX and the following measurements:

table: 54-58
depth: 60-62.3
crown angle: 34-35.0
pavilion angle: 40.6-40.9 (sometimes 41.0)

The IGI cert is a concern, too, the stone is likely at least a couple of grades lower in colour and clarity.

As an example, for only a little bit extra $ you could have this top cut stone which would perform WAY better.

Crown angle is a little higher than what I (and most of the experienced PSers here) would like. For 40.6 PA, 35.5 CA usually works best.

The IF clarity grade is paying for something you can't really see (unless there is a sentimental reason for doing so, then if so, that's fine by me). If you dropped the IF clarity grade for an eye-clean SI1/VS2 and stuck with an I colour, you may have been able to pick up a stone with higher carat weight (and most women I know love higher carat weight as its something easily visible to the eye).

IGI is a much better grading report than a lot of the other no-name labs that a large number of jewellers use for the vast majority of diamonds they sell. I personally prefer AGS over GIA (though I'd pay further attention to a stone that is a GIA XXX if it has parameters that bring it under 2 on the HCA and fall within the AGS000 boundaries on HCA).

Thanks to everyone for the feedback -- I truly appreciate it and am weighing whether to return this one and buy another or go pay for a separate grading. Either way, I'm grateful for the expert advice!

The odds aren't good for this stone to come back as an "I" color from GIA lab.

Good idea. If you are hoping to keep it, I would definitely pay to have it graded by GIA to make sure you have what IGI say you have. In saying that, as Dancing Fire has said, the odds aren't great for it to return an I as IGI is known for grading not as strongly. I think the I is the biggest concern because even if it returns as a VVS1 or VVS2 that really isn't a problem (in my mind at least). The only other thing with the stone that is potentially concerning is the cut.

One thing to consider though is that you should have paid less buying an IGI stone. Have a look but maybe you cant find a AGS/GIA stone for a similar price. If you can, I would personally pick a GIA or AGS stone, go higher in colour and lower in clarity. Maybe a H colour & VS2 clarity.

We are actually hunting for the perfect stone now & the hunt is painful!!! Best of luck!!!
