Hopeless? Show me HW Micropave + Tiffany Legacy COMBINED

I finally realize that the main reason I can't decide on a setting style is because (like some others who have posted here) I love the look of Tiffany Legacy + Harry Winston Micropave Cushion (although I have a Round H&A) + Tacori 2620

I love the face up view of the Harry Winton, I like that there is no cathedral panel on the shoulder and that the basket just sits ever so lightly on the band. I tried on a few this past weekend and it's so delicate and sweet. I was about to run out of the store with it, but the huge security guard made me second guess myself :naughty: BTW I would like to point out that the customer service in every single HW store I've ever been to is SOOOO much better than the customer service at T&Co. Maybe it's because more people feel intimidated going into HW (it's usually empty when I go) but I've come across some of the most pretentious salespeople at T&Co.

But I also love the profile and side view of the Tiffany Legacy + Tacori 2620. I love the antique look, the detail, and pretty much everything about it.

The only thing that I do NOT like about the Tiffany Legacy or Tacori 2620 is the cathedral panels on the shoulder of the shank /\ I do not like that at all and don't want my ring to have that.

Any advice on how to incorporate these together? I know the HW does not leave a lot of room for engravings and detailed work, but I am willing to wear a 2.2 mm band instead of the 1.8 that it comes in. I just don't know to make my vision come to life. Of course I'll have the jeweler that I pick create a hand/CAD drawing. But before I even approach them, I want to have a more solid idea of what I want so that I can express it to them properly. I don't mind pictures that have some sort of combination of the two AND the cathedral panel because I'm sure that I can get that removed, but what I can't see is how they will mix the delicate pave (less metal showing) shank WITH a more intricate engraving design.

Thank you

Can any of you help me out? show me pictures.

Here are the three pretties that are the bane of my existence.

maybe you can get something like the HW micropave but with a different head? I'm not sure about engraving + teeny tiny band though...

I've never seen engraving on cut-down/fishtail/mushroom Harry Winston type of micropave. I would suspect there is just not enough room to really form a pattern. If you're thinking of millgrain specifically, you definitely couldn't get millgrain with that type of micropave- there's no edge to do it on. I've only seen engraving on bead set micropave (or channel set). Really delicate bead set with millgrain can be quite beautiful (that's the Tiffany Legacy / Tacori look).

If you want millgrain and other engraving, go for the beadset micropave. You could definitely get a HW shape of setting without the cathedral, just with that variety of micropave. If you really love the antique look, you could go for really ornate engraving on the sides, not just millgrain. Check out Greenlake Jewelry's engraving- IMO they do the absolute best engraving out there, with Singlestone as a possible equal. (I've not seen SS's engraving in person, so I can't really compare.) http://www.greenlakejewelry.comhttp://www.singlestone.com

Grr. Greenlake makes it tough to link to their stuff. Let me see if I can upload some pics later.

Yeah, you just can't have both! HW and similar Leon Mege settings have minimal metal so that only diamonds show for the most part. With the Legacy or Tacori, you get milgrain edges (and engraving, if you wish). They are simply two different styles.

Incidentally, some of those middle pictures are not of the Tiffany Legacy. I can tell that is not the Legacy stone and the Tiffany setting is more delicate:

ditto! and the real legacy is bezel set and not prong set like in the pics you posted.

I love the HW and Tiffany Legacy so I get where you are coming from. But unfortunately you can't really combine those styles. Your bench jeweler will be able to remove the cathedral arms though.

Not completely hopeless actually.

You have to pick the design elements that you like about each of the pieces and then make a coherant proposal, for you to send to someone very talented and design savy. Like Leon or Maytal.

But just as an example... here is a hybrid: It's got a VERY delicate halo like the HW and the center stone is prong set. But it has cathedral arms and the bright cut pave allows for milgrain-- and there is very lovely fine milgrain work on the piece. I like it much better than the Legacy. I think (though I can't see the profile) that you could probably have engraving added to this one on the profile as well if it looks the way I think on the side... just very delicate engraving as Leon's work tends to be very graceful and delicate.

This setting (with white metal and white diamonds) could be adapted to a cushion rather than a radiant... and it would work. If you sent this to Leon and asked him to make it (same style of pave but for a cushion) with a prong set stone but NO catherdral, I'm betting he could do it, he'd probably have to add a donut or something for support in the gallery (like hte HW). But you could probably could maybe have engraving on the shank, and MAYBE on the profile of the halo. And I'm thinking it would be lovely.

Yep, I noticed that wasn't the Legacy because of the stone.

Good luck, OP.

hey~! remember me? have you called up philip yet? i reeeeeeally think you should. i just read your other post about your experience with Leon :( eek. i posted some new photos of my ring on my original e-ring post, so if you want you can see more details of the ring :)

but seriously, he has like 500 different e-rings in his office display. please do yourself a favor and go see it. and regarding patina, i know i've seen some really dark, bad looking patina's. philip's platinum is somehow different -- he has his own platinum mix that he makes in his workshop -- and for whatever reason it's SO much whiter. it's at least a shade whiter than my friend's platinum ring. and also my price was considering platinum value.

and is something like this what you're looking for (the one in the middle: side view and face up view is of the same ring)? + some engraving? i bet it's completely possible. milgrain on the edges of the diamonds may not be possible but along the bottom (where the ring touches your fingers) may be lined with milgrain? (like my ring?)
