I''ve been lurking on and off for a little over a year now and decided to register today. I''ve gotten so much great advice on this site and have been bitten by the diamond bug!

I''m starting to work with Wink on a pair of hoop earrings, and hopefully down the line a tennis bracelet with the hand assembled setting. This will be my first custom piece (of probably many) and I am very excited~!

I am looking for a very thin pair of hoop earrings, maybe 2mm. 18kt yellow gold and maybe white down the line. I''ve attached pics from an ebay item I was looking at, but those are 2.5" vs my ideal diameter of 2." I was wondering if anyone has any advice on:

- Prong set vs. pave set?

- Does inside out mean that there are diamonds all around the outside and then all around the inside?

- Whats the best clasp that will be secure as well as look "seamless"

If you could post any pictures of large thin hoops as examples, I''d really appreciate it!

Thanks--

Meg

Hi Starkittens! Welcome to PS!

I''m sure that your hoops will turn out beautifully and be perfect for you!! How exciting!

I have a pair of Precision Set Inside Out Hoops. Here is a link to my thread in the Show Me the Ring forum if you would like to see them .... https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/show-me-the-ring-huh-do-these-qualify.76246/

They are prong set and, yes, the inside out means that there are diamonds either on the front of the hoop or all around the outside of the hoop and then either on the back inside of the hoop or all around the inside.

My hoops don''t appear "seamless" because they don''t go all the way around ... just about 3/4 or so. They have a friction post, which I find holds them very securely, however, I have seen different ones that have a post that you snap into a clasp type backing as well.

I hope this helps! Please do show us pictures when this project is finished!

Hi,

I love large hoop earrings too but in my quest to find the perfect hoops, I realised that you really need to try them on before purchasing. Even a small difference in diameter can change the look significantly. Also, it depends on your ears. If you have ear lobes that are rather flat against your head (like mine

), people will end up seeing the side/profile of the earrings a lot when they are looking at your directly, rather than the diamonds. They only see the diamonds if they re looking at your face at a 45 degree angle. Only if you have ear lobes that are a little flared out (sorry, don;t really know a better way to describe it) then the diamonds on the earrings can be seen when people are looking at you straight in the face.

If you have earlobes like mine, very small diamonds in prong set or larger diamonds in pave works better. Because the earrings set this way ends up thinner (I don''t mean the width where the diamonds are, but the depth.. I hope I am not confusing you because it is so hard to describe). If you have earlobes that don''t lay face against your head, then all types of setting and size will work. But you will need to choose a size that you would look good.

Inside out hoops usually have diamonds half way around on the outside front, and half way around on the inside of the back of the hoop. So when the hoop is facing forward, all you see are diamonds, and the back view is metal.
