Hey everyone... searching for an engagement ring and need a little advice.
I am torn between two diamonds. Given a brand-name diamond (cartier/tiffany) and prices are equivalent, what would be the better deal?

A) 1.5 ct, H, VS2 (with a cloud in the center)
B) 1.25 ct, F, VS1

My girlfriend really seems to like the brand-name ring, so cant have both high quality and larger size.

Is the cloud eye visable?

As for the color - I like it
As for the clarity - if the cloud is visible, it should not be graded a VS2 to begin with so that is another problem entirely
-if it is eye clean, why pay extra money for something you will never see? (stick with the VS2)

I really doubt that Tiffany/Cartier would sell a diamond with a visible inclusion. I think that is why they stick with VS2 and above. And a VS2 should definately be eye clean unless your vision is better than 20/20.

What shape are these diamonds?

It took me a while to teach my DH, but here goes. Repeat after me, "If Mama ain''t happy, ain''t nobody happy." Get her the one she wants.

lol....TRUE THAT!

All other things being (relatively!) equal (namely both are excellent cut and both are eye-clean) - I''d get the BIGGEST, of course!

That''s a no brainer for me!

Repeat after ME, "H, VS2 is NOT low quality"
Your average person on the street would not be able to tell the difference between a well cut H,VS2 and a D Flawless.

the shape is round and clouds are eye-clean. thanks for the advice everyone!

No one will be able to see the difference in a VS1 and a VS2 without a powerful loupe. An H colored round diamond will still be very white and no one will be able to judge its color grade without a side by side comparison of a whiter diamond. I say go for the larger diamond. If she''s the type of gal who absolutely won''t be happy without a Tiffany ring, then get her what she wants.

I agree with everyone else. If you can''t see the cloud, and you said you couldn''t, go for size! And post pics after you propose!

Go for the bigger stone! I have a VS2 pear and the inclusions in it are a few small clouds on the side. I have never been able to see them even with a 10X loupe. I got a 30X loupe just so I could see the darn things, and at first glance, I still can't find them! I'm sure at 30X I should be able to, and maybe someday I will.

Just make she's not color sensitive - an H is still near colorless, but next to a D or an E, you'll see some tint. Alone, you probably won't.
