High color diamond in a rose gold bezel?

This one is tough, I think I like the plat bezel. For me, my eye finds the solid wall of color more pleasing--ie no rose gold which would add contrast. Octo's ring pushed me over to that side....

Not my ring unfortunately:cry:, just a setting that I have been dreaming about from LAD.

That's a pretty halo!

Because of our shank design, rose gold will be at the top of it. Given that, would you still say rose gold on the outside of the halo or would your opinion change to the bezel?

Preface my answer with the fact that I am currently a little bit obsessed with rose gold, I think that the halo would look great in the rose gold. I would be concerned, as you stated earlier, about how that will impact the color of your stone. I have seen several halos in RG lately in photos, but no step cut. It would be ashamed to loose some of the whiteness of your stone due to metal reflection.

This is a tough one. Usually when one does a yellow or rose gold bezel, it is because they desire some of the color to be seen in the stone. Caysie has done a platinum ring with rose gold bezel before, but the one I recall had about an L light brownish tone stone. I do not love the halo to be in rose gold, so I'd go for the bezel if you need rose gold on the top of the ring. I'd just ask Caysie if they can plate the inside of the bezel with rhodium or something. I'd consider no rose gold on the top, though.

Thanks for your reply DS. Let me ask you this... You said you wouldn't do the halo in rose gold, and I agree with that. I'd only do the outer ring of the halo, not the entire halo (both the outer and inner/bezel). To my eye, that's too much. Still don't like it if it's the outline only? Here are the three (self-colored!) option ideas; I should note that on the actual envisioned design there will be only about half that much rose gold (so top half of the shank rose gold, bottom half platinum):FullSizeRender-1 2.jpg

The thing is, the bezel is usually a separate piece of metal from the halo. The halo is cast as a whole. So you can't just have the outer edge of the halo rose gold unless, I guess, it is somehow plated. If you look at a lot of settings, either the halo is rose gold, or the bezel is rose gold. I'd still go for #1 if Caysie says they can plate the inside of the bezel with rhodium (or anything white). I would not do #2 anyway because that edge would just blend into the shank.

I should have qualified my comments about the ring construction aspects that I am definitely no expert and Caysie is the best resource on that!

I didn't know that! But now, thinking clearly about rings, it makes sense. So that option is out then as I just don't like rose gold halos on diamonds. It's weird! I'm a huge fan of rose gold (have been wearing it for a number of years in a number of different pieces), but I just have never liked it as the entire halo of a diamond ring. I guess I could always add another layer of metal under the halo and have it stick out slightly so the rose gold could be seen, but I think that's getting too bulky.

Caysie and I shot some texts back and forth last night; I sent her some images of what I was thinking of for the design of the halo and she loved it so when we resume the project in June we'll finalize all of the design elements and then play with colors in CAD.
