I know some of you said not to go over my budget but I made the mistake and have upped it to £3500. I had a look at some loose diamonds over the weekend and was impressed with G/H/I and VS2/S1 as some of you recommended.

I have since found out that my girlfriend prefers the marquise shape.

Can someone give me their opinion on this one on Dirtcheapdiamonds.com:

Marquise 1.09 H VS2 EGL $3,387 65.7 58 VG VG None 10.08x5.36x3.52

and are Dirtcheap reputable?

Thanks in advance.

Hi! It seems that quite a few people around here o Pricesope have used 'Dirtcheap diamonds' and the name occured on a couple of threds. As you can see on the frontpage of this site, they are listed among the retailers represented there... I did not have to deal with them in person, so I hope you get more informed feedback on this.

As for the marq, well, I surely like them thin, so yours seems nice to me. It is also deap enough to have decent sparkle. I feal that inclusions do not show particularly badly in marquises; with a H VS2 carater this should not be a concern. H is beyond the 'white' D-F range but better than the quitsentially comercial I and the price, while not 'dirt cheap', seems nice too. So, congrats for the choice from my part! Just one more thing: marqs are very much a matter of choice - some like them thin (like this person), some like them short, some like them oval-ish, and some like them lozenghe-like. Just make sure you know what the end-user prefers! The stone you picked up seems decent in every way... Also there seems to be some myth that long stones look great on long fingers (only). I frankly do not subscribe: however proportioned, your stone a little over 1cm long so it should fit any finger. Surely your girl knows what she wants!

Davis..unfortunately not many of us know much about the fancy shapes....

check out www.gemappraiser.com and do their DIY Cut Grader...punch in the #s you have and see what it says about the cut grade of the stone from the #'s given. Anything under 3 will be very good. 3 is somewhat more mainstream and 4 would be your typical horrible maul cut. I'd try to stick with a 1A,1B,2A,2B grading on all factors...and then get it independently appraised too.

DCD has had alot of happy customers post on this forum--run an archive search to find their infomraiton. Also whiteflash has other types of stones than just their ACA line...so you may want to check those out as well. GOG also has fancy shapes and I recall seeing some actual images of the stones, as well as IdealScope images on his site for some fancies, see if he has any that may tempt you (then you'd get to see the light return etc of the fancy..which is not as good as a round). Find the stone that returns the most light IMO.

Good luck!!

I had a look on GOG's site and he does have lots of info on marquise stones.

I also found this stone: 0.80ct H VS2 H&A : which is a rb, not a marquise, but sounds fantastic - plus it's in your (new) price range.
