Hi all!

I am admittedly a long time lurker of the celeb-rings page...unhealthily drooling fawning over settings and as a 5 month newlywed I already want to reset my ring because of it! I''m finally joining in the forum fun! I see how kind you all are to each other and wanted to jump in for advice about my brand new puppy...I just got a tiny baby chi and she sometimes has fits in the night (I wake up every 3-4 hours still to feed her because I am worried about her sugar dropping) and it seems like she is having nightmares. Does anyone here have a tiny guy like this with anything similar? I have two other dogs (2.5 lbs and 5 lbs - so I am not new to dogs altogether, just this teeny tiny type is making me a nervous nelly)! Her name is Gracie and she weighs 14 oz at 3.5 months (which I think is about 410 grams for all of you who are familiar with gold or gem weight

)

Thanks in advance for your time!
Jennifer

I don''t have a Chi (nor have I had problems like this) but I just wanted to say I''m sorry she''s having problems. It must be very worrisome for you as a mom. And she sounds so tiny! Please post some pics and good luck!

I Have a Tea Cup yorkie, She is 2 year''s old and is only 3 pounds. Pixie would have little fits also but I found it was because she missed the comfort of her mommy. I''d play with her all day so she couldnt sneak a nap. Then I would just sleep with her at night, and let her sleep nestled in my neck. She learned very quickly that I was her mommy now. A comfort toy is also a great idea. She still play with hers till this day.

Oh and huge word of advice and mark my words your going to need this. Grace is going to get into everything. So keep all your stuff high up so she cant get to it and chew it up. I once left my coach bag on the couch and all the leather was chewed off and I had just bought it
29.gif
I wanted to kill her, but it wasnt her fault it was mine. I should have never left it there. She''s an animal and doesnt know any better.

Why does she do that makes you think that she is having nightmares? Is she having seizures? Have you asked your vet about your concerns?

Thanks for your words. I hope she gets better too! I''ve attached a pic of Gracie, the chi in question.

(Hudson - I hope the big E comes soon for you too!) Mrs. Soon2BA, I am so excited to hear the words teacup! Do you have pics? I love yorkies! Especially because of that fountain ponytail! I am a member of a chihuahua forum too, asking the same questions, and I nearly got hate mail when I said teacup! I don''t care if it is not "recognized" - it will let you know the size of the dog without saying much more! She has a comfort toy and the other puppy works...she even does it when I hold her (believe me I''ve had some sleepless nights with this one). OMG I would be so mad about my bag too! Grrrrr and YOU KNOW you can''t blame her and that would make it even worse! What happened to the bag? I bet a good leather or shoe place could fix it...maybe even Coach themselves? I''ve tried to lift up anything I can, she is very partial to this laptop cord too. She is looking at me right now like this:
27.gif

Re nightmares, she squeals at night and gets tense, and then will look at me like a person who is sleepwalking (much different than her day face). I have asked my vet about my concerns, and she says to just keep an eye on her...that there is not much we can do, and maybe she will grow out of it. It has gotten slightly better, but I don''t know if that is because I was causing it somehow without knowing it, but I''ve been consistent.

What are the other good forums on PS? I check celeb rings all the time, and I read alot about the gems and diamonds in the first section (I forgot what it''s called)...

She is SUCH a cute little peanut-I want one!!! My bf and I have a chow chow who thinks living creatures who are smaller than him are food so we can't get a second dog (he's 12 and set in his ways).

Per your question about the forums. If you look at the top of the page underneath the search feature you'll see some options. One is "Posted Today". I'm a PS addict, I read it every day like my newspaper, so I use the posted today link and follow along. It shows all of today's active threads and you get a variety of topics from wedding planning to stone buying information. It's a really helpful feature of PS.

Oh, and I LOVE your rings! If you haven't already, post some hand shots in the Engagement ring/eyecandy/bling forum.

Cute pup! But I have to say, it was hard to keep my eyes focused on the pup with the crazy blinding bling action you''ve got going on your wedding finger there, Jennifer! Let''s see some more shots of those rings! You can post them in the forum called ''Show me the ring''. And make sure you post stats too. We''re all a little obsessed aroudn here.

Hi, Jennifer~

I have a small yorkie who''s only 2.8 lbs @ 2 yrs old. I got her when she was a little under 2 lbs.

My advise to you is to feed Gracie a kind of sugar supplement called Nutrical during the day and especially before going to sleep. You can get it in any Petco or Petsmart. It''s a high calories/sugar supplement in a tube that helps tiny dogs from hypoglucemia, low blood sugar that cause them to shaking or even death. (Tiny dogs would get hypoglucemia from not enough food consumption to being nervous in new environment)
& remember to watch after her and train her from jumping off sofas/beds etc. cuz they would easily break their legs from doing simple things like this. You should also limit play time & playing areas for her, so she doesn''t get over exhausted from playing.
You have to really keep an eye on her since she''s tiny and at such young age. Usually reputable breeders won''t even let tinies go to new homes before they are at least 16 to 22 weeks old.

Let me know if you have any other question & I''d love to help. (I''m not a diamond expert yet but sure can help on your tiny family addition

Btw....your ring is so eye-catching that I keep looking at it even when I was "awwwing" for how precious Gracie is in that picture.

I have 4 Chihuahua''s--tea cup size. They sleep with us under the covers. I''m not sure what could be causing this squeeling. I hope it isn''t seizure like episodes. Hopefully it is just maturity. Does she sleep with you? They love to be right next to someone when they sleep.
On another note, does anyone know what I mean by "honking chihuahuas?" We get so tickled when they do this. It''s when they are excited and they tend to get into sniffing fits and they honk. Usually when someone they know walks in the door after any kind of absence.

DooBao,
She is a DOLL. She has the sweetest face. I love Yorkies but I know mine would be a terrible mess of hair!

I do have the Nutrical - the breeder gave me a tube with the pup - but my vet said no to Nutrical so I stopped, but after talking with the breeder again and actual tiny dog owners, she is back on it. I think you are right that a dollop before bedtime is key, especially in Gracie''s case with her little night fits. She is confined to areas and does NOT have free reign of the house. How did you train your pup to not jump off the bed/sofa (my 5 pounder is big enough, my 2.5 lb-er is scared of her own shadow and never would, but Gracie is fearless!) Also, how did you handle stairs? There is a wrought iron baluster and railing on our stairway and I am terrified she''ll jump through! So far, she has never set paw on them and is carried from up to down and vice versa. Do you still give your girl Nutrical at 2 y/o?

Gracie came home with me at almost 11 weeks, against the breeder''s desire, but I flew across the country, literally, to pick her up so she would not fly on the plane cold and alone. It was the only weekend that was going to work for us to be able to get her. I fell in love with her over the internet and woke my DH up @ 4 am and said "THIS IS THE ONE!" (I have major insomnia!)

Sorry to bombard you with puppy questions...but you sound like you know what''s up with the tinies!

Thanks for the ring comments - I will hunt through what pics I have on my laptop of my ring to post. DH picked it all out himself so he gets very happy and proud when people say nice things -- I will have to pass on the word!

Julia,

FOUR?!!? You must have your hands full! I see how they are addicting though...I mean they are tiny - you could have 12 and it be like one big dog, right? (I know, not really, but that is how I like to present it
2.gif
).

She sleeps with me when she can during the day, if I am stationary, on computer, folding laundry etc. But at night she sleeps in her bed by our bed. I am so scared of smashing her or rolling her off the bed by accident...

I have heard about the honk - but have yet to have the privilege! Gracie doesn''t even bark yet. She just squeals when any noise comes out of her. Is it like the reverse sneeze?

Do you have pics of your crew?

Jennifer

Jennifer,

Your puppy is gorgeous! I've had several chihuahuas growing up. (Napoleon and Josephine) had two litters, and although they have since passed away, we have the last runt of Josey's last litter. She's now 14 years old. My boxer has had 2 litters of puppies, but we didn't have any problems with the babies getting to sleep.

I remember when the chihuahuas were little, they would whine and cry at night. The runt (Twiggy) was the worst. We also had to feed her suppliments because she wasn't getting any milk from her momma. I really don't think you need to feed yours nutrical, since she's now 3 and a half months old. She may just be lonely. I know this sounds silly, but we ended up putting a clock inside her pen and the rhythm to her felt like a heartbeat, and she really settled down at night.

We kept her in a small kennel to house train her better, and it came with an attatchable feeder inside so she'd have food. Sleeping with puppies is tricky, mostly because you either squish them or they pee in your bed. She could also be waking up because she needs to pee or poop. Try not to give her water after 7 or 8pm.

Try the ticking clock for a few days.. it's kind of hit or miss, but if it works, at least you'll get some sleep.

Awwwww.. your puppy is sooo cute and is that an ering I spy??????? You gotta start a thread bout it! I want pictures.. Hmm, I have a 2 yr old Shih Tzu.. She is on the small side because she is such a picky eater.. She also has to be hand fed or she dun really eat her meals.. Here is a pic of her..

I have a 3lb Chihuahua, also named Grace. She has dreams like that from time to time but I don''t think it is anything to worry about. She also has no hypoglycemia issues but she looks bigger than your pup. Here is a pic of our Gracie as a baby.

img_1862.jpg

Ahhhh! They are twins!!!! Grace - a long lost doppleganger!!!!

ThreeP - Your pup''s adorable! Oh my word, hand fed. With your bling on I''m sure!

I have not tried the ticking clock but have read a lot about it (I think there is an old one I am not using that I can wrap up and put in there (you know it will be the one time she pees on something in there that is not her potty pads).

Yes, it is engagement and wedding ring...your PSer''s are like where''s Waldo sleuths of bling! I have two pics I found on my computer but I feel weird talking about it!!! But I guess this is the right place?! Idk - I had couple of my gf''s get really catty and mean and saying things to me like "I wouldn''t want to wear something like that." I guess I''m a little burned and shy...

I will start a post (with a disclaimer!) - mostly because I think our story is cute and I''ll get a chance to tell it to wedding-happy folk!!!!

I obviously don''t have a tiny dog, she was born the size of some of full grown babies in this thread lol. but I did want to say whoever is catty about your rings should be ashamed. they are beautiful for one thing and a GIFT from your hubby that is so thoughtful and special and that is nothing a true friend should be commenting on
38.gif
.

All those tiny dogs are so cute!!!

Mrs. Salvo - Thanks for the nice words. It was one friend in particular that was so awful, the other few were just half-empty types. We were friends for about two years too. I held a small party at a restaurant near my apartment at that time and invited the girls that I wanted to be bridesmaids (when inviting them just telling them that I had got back from HI and had an announcement to make - that is pretty self-explanatory when your bf has told your friends for months that he is going to marry you). I bought them presents (just three girls) and she said she could not come, she was busy, and it was too far. She was my next door neighbor, and I could walk to this restaurant. The next day when she found out what the party was about she never called to say congratulations and talked poorly about my DH. She had the entire time we were dating said things like "why are you with this guy there are so many younger more fun guys out there. He''s not even cute." (She is a B-List starlet that thinks looks are everything
14.gif
) I thought she was just "looking out for me" - but in retrospect I know it was more. I have not talked to her since that day and that was a year ago. AND, he''s handsome to me, makes me laugh, and is my best friend. So I agree with this face
38.gif
!

Anyway, sorry for vent and downer about catty girls. Bleccch.

Moving on, DH wants a huge dog (by huge I mean regular sized lol) - what breed is your avatar? What he really wants is a Flat-Coated Retriever. Have you or anyone ever heard of that? I''m little nervous and kind of want to have a baby, take care of said baby, baby becomes more manageable toddler, THEN get a dog. I don''t want an attack! Is your pup good with kids? What about if the dog is like 2 yrs old and THEN a baby gets introduced....is that dangerous?

Welcome to PS!! I don''t have a teeny tiny dog, but I grew up with a poodle snauser mix that is only 9 pounds, and he has epilepsy (seizures). He would have grand mal seizures which are hard to see. He would lay on his side, shaking uncontrolably for half a minute or so, wet himself, drool and then go stiff when it was over. only his eyes would be wide open and look around and move. After the fit was over, he would get up franticly and be VERY wobbly and almost look as though he was drunk. There can also be warning signs before a fit, but for me, they are harder to pin point. As for the nutrical, I was given that for my Scottie when I got him at 9 weeks, but I''ve worked at a few vet offices and many vets have informed me suppliments can do more harm then good if it''s not needed.

Of course just like everything, seizures can vary and some are less severe than others, so it may not be as prominent as it was in my little Pierre. I''d just look at how he reacts after the nightmares and see if there are warning signs of being true seizures, or she''s just dreaming and appearing to be chasing something and whimper a bit. Goodluck and enjoy your little cutie!! She truly is adorable :-)

Thanks KS --- I just left you a comment over in No Kitties.
That is so tough about your little guy. Just seeing her have these few and far between is so hard.
Argggh the whole Nutrical debate has got my head spinning. To give or not to give - that is the teacup question...
Your avatar is so sweet...I can see your left hand, and *most* of that ring finger ... but not enough...lol. Are you two engaged?!

I need to take some pictures...
Ok, this is only my opinion, but I would put her in bed with me. If you roll over on her, she''ll let you know! The warmth and closeness to another living thing is comforting. All of ours find their niche under the covers and you should hear the snoring, lol. Early on, when they wanted down in the mornings they used to whine, and later when they were a little bigger we put a chair and step next to the bed so they could get down and up easier.

Oh, and of course we have a rottie/black lab mix, who mothers every one of the chis! It''s a peculiar mix, but it works!

Jennifer,

My dog is tiny (11 lbs), but not as tiny as yours! But when she was a puppy, as she slept she used to kind of....vibrate? She''d move around and sometimes yelp in her sleep. It was pretty funny. We just called them ''puppy dreams''.

To this day, when she''s DEEPLY sleeping next to me, she still vibrates and I can see her eyes moving underneath her eyelids. She''s just dreaming.

my dog is a yellow Lab. We got her about 6 weeks after we got married. I did a ton of research on the breed and labs are known for their gentle nature, especially with children. I had our first baby when my dog was about 1 1/2 and she has never been anything but funloving with my kids. I''ve got 2 little girls now who climb all over her, take food they''ve dropped back out of her mouth and she does nothing, just stands there and takes it (as she well should.) I think 2 years, then baby is fine, i just wouldn''t do new baby and puppy at the same time
32.gif
. Also, we spent a lot of time doing things to my dog what an innocent child would do so she could get used to all the picking and pulling.

I can't speak to the small dog thing, because mine is almost 70 pounds! But he is a year old right now and he still has little dreams where his legs move and his head twitches. He has had them since he was a puppy and the vet said that it's actually a part of a dog's brain development and that it was completely normal.

So while you might want to make sure the dog is not having seizures, it probably is just brain development.

Julia,

I LOVE the chi-snores. My other two don''t and I didn''t know what I was missing out on! How will she let me know though now, she doesn''t bark yet? The little whines she does I don''t think would wake me...I''d be guilty of involuntary manchislaughter! Our bed comes up to about my waist (I''m 5''4") and I''m so terrified of a tumble. I am thinking about getting one of those ramps...? But they are SO awful. Do you think she will still learn it if I try when she is older and less fragile? I love that she is a teacup princess, but I don''t want her to be uber-spoiled, like can''t do a *thing* for herself, you know?

Gosh, you guys are comforting! So it seems as if everybody''s doggie as a pup was a little weird and jumpy in their sleep. The crazy eyes on the your pug made me feel better about rollin-back-and-around-rhonda over here. Mrs.S - that is good to know about the Labs. It sounds kind of silly but I don''t know which we should try to plan for first...! I *know* I can take care of dog...but a baby OH MY! I also thought it might be fun to wait and when the baby was about 5 or so, let him or her pick out the bigger doggie for the family...?

Jennifer, I seriously think your last idea is a good one. When your child is 4 or 5, they will enjoy helping choose a dog to grow up with. Plus it will be better to see if your child has allergies and that kind of thing before adding another larger dog.

I hope it''s just little dreams she is having, since dogs can do that as well!! Also, I know that chi''s are known for their shaking, perhaps doggy sweater shopping is in order?? hehe!! With the nutrical, I say go with your gut instinct after doing research and seeing as many opinions as you can, even with dogs people tend to have a mothers intuition

My avatar is of my husband and I, we have been married a little over a year, and I''m loving every minute of it! I tried to get my ring in the picture, but alas failed to do so...pooh....hehe guess we''ll have to have another photo shoot

Ahhh! So sorry! Congratulations!
Good to hear there is still wedded bliss down the road...!
If or when you have a baby together, he or she will be a Hapa like me!!! Yay to all Hapas!!!
