Its gold but no stamps, any thoughts on what it is or used for

Firstly, its a charm or pendant.
Secondly, are you sure it's gold, not plated? Looks like those stones are glued in.
I don't see any functioning prongs.
If they are glued in, then there's no way it's solid gold. A jeweler can tell you for sure.

Could be right, only thing is it came with some quality rings, will take it to a jewellers when i get a chance,

Does it open? It reminds me of lockets Avon used to sell that held little tubs of solid perfume. I also have a hinged silver filigree ball, from Indonesion, that is supposed to be filled with a scented cotton ball.
