We had already picked out the ring a while ago - I originally wanted a nice Asscher but we started looking at antique rings on a whim and it just felt right. We settled on this beauty below, it dates from the 1850's, amazing. It was also under budget so with some of the leftover money, he got me a pair of shoes

BTW I want to thank all people on this forum for their help, this forum was such a helpful resource

Thank you for the kind words everyone! I am very happy right now, all my friends and family are so thrilled for us that I am glad to bring them some good news

I am so relieved you all like it, I was a little concerned that it might be a little ostentatious! When we switched to antiques I was aiming at Art Deco rings (which were also wonderful) but this one cause my eye with its romantic old soul, beautiful details (I am all about details) and craftsmanship. I never thought I would get a coloured stone either but there you go.

I also got the boy a swiss watch as an engagement momento (why should girls have all the fun?). It''s definitely not as expensive as the ring and it''s certainly not to wear forever but he needed one and I wanted him to feel special too.

sparklyforever - I was thinking about that, I don''t really know the correct direction to wear it on the hand. With the claddagh rings (the two hands around the heart), I''ve heard that when you wear it facing outwards it means you''re engaged, and then inwards when you''re married - love this idea. I might try it for fun.

somethingshiny - This ring will be both e-ring and wedding ring. I put so much effort into finding this one that I don''t think I could match it with a band as well! I think it stands up well enough on its own anyway

yssie - absolutely! The shoes and ring are at different locations right now but I will update later this week with pics

What a gorgeous e-ring! Congratulations!!!

It''s a beautiful and unique vintage ring. I love the whole thing, but the goldwork on the band is gorgeous.

Just a suggestion, but I would try turning it around the other way and see what you think.

Could we get some pics of the inside of the ring please? I love old rings and this one is very nice! Congrats!
