Haven't seen momma cat. It's very hot and pouring down rain. This kitten is covered in mud and crying. Unfortunately it's in the pipe and I can't see it anymore only hear it.

Any suggestions?

Can you call animal control? Will they come and rescue it?

ETA: if it were me and I thought I could safely reach it, I'd probably go do that. But not if it's unsafe in any way (don't know what your storm drains are like).

I would probably start with the Police or Fire Department and ask them who you should call. It's not unusual to hear stories like this and it is usually the local Fire Department that helps the animal. Please keep,us updated. I hope someone can figure out a way to get him out safely.

Can you see if food smells entice the kitten towards the opening?

Exactly.

Try placing a bit of fish at the end of the pipe, a bit more further away, etc.

Just weaned kittens might go for milk & nothig else ...

If food works, it may take time for hunger to beat fright.

(I am asuming this is not a vertical pipe !)

If you expect the rain to flood the drain, just go for it. You will get scratched (bitten ?) & save yourself a cat.

Just don't get caught in there yourself, ok? Whatever you do, be safe.

Ok. I saw momma kitty nearby (I think it's her). I secured a long piece of flat board from the opening down to the base where the pipe opens. If the kitten hasn't gone too far, it should be able to climb up and out and be rewarded with a plate of tuna kitten food. I will check tomorrow and report back!

Good luck @Elliot86 ! I hope that kitten comes out and is ok!

Sending you lots of kitty dust Elliott!!

I swear I attract cat issues. The kitten was really freakin LOUD or I never would have noticed.

You're a good person - keep trying, rooting for you.

Updates?

Oh no, I hope the kitten is OK. Sending good vibes for safety to the sweet kitty and thank you Elliot for doing all you can to help him/her. (((HUGS))).

Hahaha I'm with you on that Elliot but rather I think we find cats that need help because we love them and are open to it whereas some wouldn't even notice or care...

I can happily report that after a harrowing 24 hours, mommy cat did return to retrieve loud azz kitten using my board hack. I couldn't snap a picture but it IS SO CUTE. I left tuna which bigger cats ate, but oh well. Kitten is fine, and luckily the rain cooled things down a bit.

Yay Elliott! I swear you are a Cat Whisperer

So glad to hear @Elliot86. You are the Cat whisperer!

Oh hardly I just really love all things animal and will not leave until someone has been fed, found, or adopted lol!

I tried to coax baby kitten out again with a bit of kitten food. It cautiously approached but bolted when some butthead walking their barking dog scared it. Boooooooooo.

Oh, did I mention I have been on vacation? This didn't even happen in my neighborhood let alone state. I was rigging this board and made my friend stand out in the rain with me. She goes "But I think they are using those boards to landscape the mulch." Welllllllp, too bad! I don't even live here!
