A friend of my daughter is looking for a 'green" sapphire for her engagement ring. I'm not sure yet what exact shade of green (or blue-green) she is wanting. However, I was wondering if any of you have recommendations for reputable vendors where she can begin her search. In addition, if you have any other advice, please pass it along. Thank you in advance!

Gemfix has a few last I checked.

Thank you @winnietucker @persimmonfan and @Avondale - this gives her a good start. I have since found out she is looking for something as close to green emerald colored as she can get. An emerald is what she originally wanted but realized they are too soft for an engagement ring.

Has anyone worked with The Natural Sapphire company?

A number of people, you can search the forum. They're considered so-so, from what I've read.

In that case I am with @winnietucker - Gemfix has some solid options.

This is my favourite: https://gemfix.com/gems/sapphire-fancy-15-1464
Decent size, good price, so hopefully in budget (you didn't mention anything about that).

A very close second in colour, but the shape may be a deal breaker, plus the Montana origin and lack of treatment really affect the price: https://gemfix.com/gems/sapphire-montana-12-2123

My third choice, the colour isn't as close to emerald green, but my, that cut! https://gemfix.com/gems/sapphire-fancy-15-1460

Be aware that green is the one colour that sapphires don't do well. You can see this if you look at 'rainbow sapphire' tennis bracelets and the like. Every other colour is glowing and saturated, green not so much. I've literally never seen a sapphire that's comparable to even an average emerald.

That said, green sapphires can be attractive in their own way. I (as an Aussie!) prefer the Aussie (or more generally, volcanic) green sapphires to the (imo) usually less saturated Montana ones. Doug Menadue has a good range. Unfortunately, you have to ask for prices.

The Natural Sapphire Company probably has the largest selection. Also, Africa Gems has a few. Good luck (and congrats) to her!

All beauties - I have passed them on to her. And I agree, the cut on that third one is stunning!

Some options here including petite, affordable ~1ct options if that is the size she wants. I think I have read that this seller is reliable on this forum but I am not 100% certain. Some don't have treatment listed so I would assume heat but you could ask.

In general, I would be careful to avoid something too dark

Some eye-candy from a Aussie seller, not sure if they sell to the public. I quite like the first one (the oval).

Now that you say this, I agree. The green is pale, albeit pretty. The deeper ones I've seen are more olive in tone.

Good point, it's a garnet, right?
Sapphire in an emerald shade is going to be tough to find.

Yeah, she may have to compromise. I sent her the websites suggested here, and I’m hoping that she falls in love with a shade that’s close, but easier to find.

Tough to find is an understatement :) nothing does emerald like emerald

my workmate got her mother in laws ER as her ER
that's kind of unusual in NZ
anyway every time i work with her im always looking out of the corner of my eye hoping the stone is still ok

What about lab grown?

But better cut.

What an about a diamond with side stones in emeralds? A friend of mine did that 30 years ago, no chips. She’s still rocking it.

I find the price a bit difficult to justify for that size and color…

For a company with millions of dollars in inventory, they really need to upgrade their photo/video quality. What is that supposed to be? It looks like I took the video with my first motorola flip phone back in the early aughts.

The bride did love the teal green Gemfix stones. And I was able to get more info: she (the couple) are very early in the process. She is not set on stone shape, or setting. I suggested that she visit a few jewelry stores to try on various gemstone rings/ e-ring settings to narrow it down and get a feel for what suites her. She was not aware you could buy an unset stone, and to be honest I have never gone through the ring making process myself. Budget is 5-6k for the ring.

Just here to say that a green sapphire is something I would try and dissuade Simone from getting as their first colored stone unless she’s seen them in person and is certain they are for her. Sapphire does many other colors better, and green is done better by many gemstones.
Obviously everyone knows I’ll say chrysoberyl lol
