I am having a terrible time deciding between oval and round. Will I ever find an oval that is as fiery and brilliant as an ideal round, without a dark spot or bow tie?

As long as we''re talking about ideally cut stones, rounds are the most brilliant cut out there. But yes, it is very possible to find an oval without a dark ugly bowtie, but it''s not nearly as easy as finding a good round!

It all depends on your personal time frame and how much you feel like doing the work. You can snap up a really awesome round in 2 or 3 days. Ovals could take more like weeks, and pouring over ASET and idealscope images, talking to various jewelers online & in person etc. But people who are willing to do the work have found beautiful ones =)

When Kaleigh was looking for the perfect oval, she had Jonathan at Good Old Gold choose a few (4 or so) to call in for her. Then she was able to view them on video, and with his opinion as well, she chose the stone she wanted. That would be the way to do it, as far as I am concerned.

IMO no, but you get greater spread and a more (IMO) elegant and unique stone.... you can''t have everything LOL

On a round, you can have eight main crown and 8 main pavillion facets cut to ideal angles. On an oval or any fancy shape, the best you can really do is 4 of each. Correct me if I am wrong. What do you think?

dod, considering what it is you want (and no, you can't really have both in one stone), I would suggest getting an oval and putting a halo around it.

I think that would be just perfect. Really pretty and very sparkly!

Good luck in your search...I just wanted to add that I think the setting is beautiful!
