i inherited a ring from my Grandmothers will. it has 925 stamped on the inside (which usually mean its sterling) but its gold in color. My question comes in here....inside the band, next to 925, is a capital F INSIDE a diamond shaped stamping. What is this?

Could be vermeil, or gold plated silver. It has been a fairly common technique for a long time. The F is probably the maker's-mark.
