I'm working with ERD to set a 1.33 carat round. Chris sent me this photo and though it's a nice setting - he would do bright cut pave edged in milgrain to match my wedding band - not the pave type shown here. However it is missing an antique feel to me. I also like cathedral settings and am toying with the idea of 6 prongs. Since he's doing custom I'd like to give him better direction so he can come up with an accurate quote.
This Beverly K setting speaks to me - love the pave shank, cathedral setting and 6 prongs. And how the prongs are not set in the a Tiffany fashion as there aren't any prongs at the north and south points. I would get rid of the engraving as it's too busy for me...but would the pave on the profile look odd on its own without the engraving? Also others here say don't do pave in areas that rub against the wedding band.

Leigh Jay Nacht has gorgeous antique settings and not just for cushions and old mine cuts, but rounds too! Here are a few I really like but notice the side views are all plain gold with no pave.

So my main question is, how can I incorporate pave into the profile /side view of a ring, when it's a cathedral ring with 6 prongs? Pave on 6,stems wouldn't look right as pave adds bulk. But I don't want the profile to just be plain gold either.
Or maybe the basket could have a pretty flourish like this only with 6 prongs? I don't like baskets that cover too much of the diamond though.

Love this one. Maybe ask him to do pave work on the basket?

Sigh I'm struggling with thus one...I don't want it to be a Frankenstein setting with a little of this and a little of that. I can't seem to find one I'm perfectly happy with though.
