Do you have a bigger ASET picture?

This is the original pdf file. Could you please describe the appearance of these white/leakage facet under normal light. Thanks.

It is actually not that bad. Below is a comparison of mine so you can see how the ASET corresponds to how it looks. How is the crown height of this EC?

What are the measurements of this stone? Depth/table ...length/width? Another consideration does it face up large for it's weight?

Here are some comparisons on JA and there are a lot in your budget to consider. I did have two .5c D SI1 emerald cut stones for earrings that faced up around 4mm x 6mm. I bought them with no ASET image and they were fine for earrings.

The largest emerald cuts around 1c face up around 5mm x 7mm. in these comparisons. I would suggest getting the step cut experts to weigh in on what they find on JA and get 3 ASETs and compare to your stone and then make your decision based on the stone in hand and the ASETS you get from JA...or get GOG to call in some stones for you as they have the best facility for testing the actual performance of a stone.

Cut is KING and a lower color stone that is still in the colorless range (D-I/J) that performs better will be a more beautiful stone. Emerald cuts show more color than other cuts so I wouldn't go lower than an H/I unless you like more color as some do prefer the lower colored stones..even in step cuts.

Here are some on JA that are under $4k. You don't have to settle with the stone you just purchased if you find something with a better ASET. Probably would be better to have GOG find the best stone in your budget since they have the testing facility to pick the absolute best cut/performing stone in your budget...as far as online vendors go.

Buying a diamond is a learning experience and you are just beginning so don't worry if you need to send your first stone back if you find something better....you might have to kiss several "frogs" to find your prince...and you have come to the right place to find "your stone".

Also, how do you feel about this cut? It is considered excellent by the jeweler. The GIA report shows it has excellent symmetry and polish. Table is 62% depth is 65%. Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion Ariel! I like this stone for its wonderful clarity and color. I have always wanted something mind clean but don't really have the money for it. I absolutely agree with you that cut is very very important. So if this cut is still considered very good, then I will keep it. Otherwise I will keep on searching.

Girdle?
Ask the vendor about the crown height. It needs to have decent height as well. This information is unlikely to be on the GIA report but can be eye-balled in the profile view.

This stone looks great. Since mine have two large leakage near the center, will it make the stone look glassy?


I have asked for the crown height and decent height, but they said these were not available. I have looked at the GIA report, but the drawing is not to scale. It is very generic profile view of the diamond.

Yes, the crown height will not be stated on the GIA report. Since B2C has the stone in hand, they should be able to guesstimate the crown height for you. This is important to have nice fire. Anything above 10% is good enough. Better yet, if they can run a Sarin on it, there's no need to guess the crown height. A thick girdle is hiding some weight but it is better than very thin, which risks chipping. The fact that the girdle is even is a plus. If everything else checks out well, I would not be overly concerned with the 2 large leakage bars.

I think that the price is reasonable. I doubt that you are going to be able to get any more information at this point, you've ordered the stone so I'm assuming that it's on it's way to you and they therefore can't provide a sarin report. But thats ok, you will now need to veiw it with your own eyes and make a determination and we can help you with that somewhat. Chronos aset was taken on a dark background, so instead of white, the areas displaying leakage are black. This is what I was referring to earlier in the thread when we were talking about different background color for viewing color and light performance etc. I've seen better ASETs than yours, but I agree with Chrono that it could be ok. EC are very hard to judge from a static image. IRL when they are in motion they do a 'walk' and each individual step will light up and flash big bold flashes of color. It's really impressive. But as Chrono already pointed out a good crown height is going to help support that. I think at this point you should just sit back and wait for it to come in, view the stone in many different lighting environments, rock it back and forth looking to see that it is bright from edge to edge and that each of the step light up when in motion. Take some photos and post them and we can help more from there.

Just a quick note about cut....GIA only assigns a cut grade for MRB's, when a vendor lists a fancy cut stone as an EX or VG cut, they are only offering an opinion and that opinion is typically dependent on only two measurements, table and depth. It's impossible to judge fancies this way, and it's really misleading of the vendors to suggest otherwise.
