Hello!

I plan to reset my elongated old mine diamond to double prongs for more security. Due to the cushion shape, the single prongs come loose fairly easily. I'd also like to explore options to raise the setting a bit higher so that my wedding band can sit more flush with the engagement ring. The latter is where I need some help.

Could you share some examples of a simple engagement ring setting that would raise the head a bit more without compromising the security of the setting too greatly? It might be difficult, she is really thick... I would be doing a platinum head and yellow gold shank again, so not a solid cast - it would need to be soldered together. And I would like to stay away from any shoulders or anything too fancy.IMG_5809.JPGIMG_5810.JPGIMG_5811.JPGIMG_5813.JPGIMG_5812.JPGIMG_3775.jpg

I've also attached a photo of a jeweler's ring, hers sits on a little bed - I have no idea what to call that to search for it.

looks like a diamond encrusted donut (the "little bed") - i would search settings with donuts, that will raise the setting!

The diamonds will rub on each other and look bad in a few years.
The existing prongs splay out, if they splay in wards that will help. A tapered band a bit wider at the top with pinched in low shoulders will keep some of the same top down view and allow for a drill hole thru the top so the new head can have a pin soldered from the bottom as well for extra strength.

Perhaps something like this with a little bit of donut and inward curving prongs. Not as elegant as outward prongs but may solve
your problem. Also, the taller the band the higher up the prongs will start (like Garry H is saying).

We call it a donut, but I think the real term for it is "seating ring" and it will create the spacing you need so that the ring can more sit flush with your band and the girdles of the diamonds won't wear down your prongs at that meet point. The pricescope detectives will chime in on examples of styles for you:)

Here’s a mixed approach, I put my donut around the ring and high enough a band sits flush. David Klass made this for me.
