Help with three stone setting

Hello! My husband recently purchased as a gift two round cut side diamonds to add to my current solitaire round cut ring. I am looking for a delicate 3 stone setting, perhaps trellis, that will still allow my wedding bands to lay flush. I now wear two simple rounded platinum bands - one on the top and one on the bottom of my solitaire, but could go down to one. I LOVE the H Levi Queen Dinah setting, but given my husband and I are both pretty conservative with spending money and he just shelled out the $$ for the diamonds, I am not inclined to pay $3,000 for a platinum setting. Blue Nile has a 3 stone trellis setting for closer to $1,000, but I am worried about my wedding band(s) not sitting right with it. Any suggestions? The other one I am contemplating is the Unique Settings of New York ENR8615. Lastly, I would love to use my current setting and one band to melt down to build the new setting. Does anyone do that? Thank you!!!

I'm not sure but I think BN will not sell their settings separately (when you don't get the diamond from them). I've also been informed by jewellers that although melting and reusing metal sounds great, there are porosity and contamination issues, especially for less pure metals such as 14K and 18K gold.

Thanks for the reply! Good to know about BN - I will confirm with them. I, too, am skeptical of melting down and reusing. One store today said they could cut my current band and add new heads to it - that sounds even riskier for quality of the final product.

If the basket is a peg head style, this can be done very easily. If integrated, it is more work and not as strong as previously. Due to the high price of gold, I am having a jeweller remove the 3 stone basket on an 18K solid cast piece to a different 3 stone basket (larger diamond and side stones). This is for a right hand ring though and does not take as much abuse as an everyday wear e-ring.
