Hi all,

I may have posted this originally on the wrong threads so I am reposting this here hoping to get some help. I bought this at an antique shop with many dealers. It is a 14k yellow gold with a rose gold shank although the pics didn’t capture the true rose gold color. It is tagged as a Victorian cluster ring. There is no marking on the shank. From what I’ve read mid- Victorian era rings aren’t necessarily marked. We tested the gold and it passed as 14k. I’m planning to have someone look at it this weekend to see if this is truly from the Victorian era. Thank you!!

Are the diamonds old cut? It's really hard to see in the photo. On the side profile, it doesn't look like they have high crowns, but it could be the angle. I'll admit that Victorian is not my time period, I have more deco pieces and just a few Victorian- and some repros, but something about the setting bothers me- it's much higher than you usually see in those types of cluster rings and it just looks a bit off to me. I hope it's an antique though!

First off, pretty ring, especially the cutouts in the gallery!

I'm no expert but my initial feeling is this could be 50's-60's, it feels very mid-century to me. Whatever the case though it is really pretty.

It’s not saying Victorian to me. I think it’s more modern ie from 1940s onwards.
It’s still a lovely ring and if the price is right (do check the diamonds under a Loupe) why not.
Just don’t pay a “premium” for it being a “genuine Victorian ring” because I doubt it is.

I agree with everyone else. Here are examples of how Victorian clusters look:

Thank you. I’m not sure. Stones are small and I wouldn’t know what the difference is between an OEC and old mine looking at them especially with these small stones. I am hoping it is a true antique. I don’t like the side profile but I do like the top profile. Hope to find out this weekend what it really is. Thank you.

Thank you for your input. I am hoping someone can look at it this weekend to tell me something/anything about it. Also, don’t know why I didn’t even think of checking it under the loupe. Thanks for pointing it out. I will do that.

Thank you so much! I am hoping someone can tell me this weekend what it is. The antique shop told me I can return it if it was misrepresented as they usually don’t accept returns but I would need written proof from a jeweler.

@Bron357 - oops I just had a memory lapse. Too early in the morning without coffee yet. I did look at the stones under a loupe. They look pretty good. Thank you.

It felt more retro to mid century to me as well. But trying to look a bit older if that makes sense.

I came across a ring on Instagram that looks similar but the period isn’t listed. Maybe you could ask the seller:

Thank you,@JPie. I sent an email with pics to an antiques dealer who supposedly offers free assessment and also posted on an online antique forum. I have not been able to find a local antique jewelry appraiser like I hoped to. Hope I get some answers. Thank you.
