help with studs?

so I would like to get my wife diamond studs for her birthday next month. She has very small ears, and I don't have as much spare $ as I would like, so I am thinking small, somewhere around 1/2 to 1/3 ctw. what should I look for in terms of color, clarity? I know the recommendations are different than for rings. I would like somewhere with a good upgrade policy in case she wants to go bigger one day. any suggestions where to start and what to look for?

If your wife has small ears, those won’t look too tiny, they’d be perfect to wear everyday.
