Hi all, I''ve been a lurker for awhile but finally decided to post because I need some help! Just purchased this gorgeous amethyst from Dan for my future sister-in-law''s birthday present, but having some trouble figuring out a setting for it.. definitely going to make it into a ring, but can''t decide on a style. My budget''s about $400 max I think... The stone''s about 9.21mm, and I know I definitely don''t want to bezel or halo it coz I think it might make the stone look too dark. The stone''s a gorgeous purple, and I''d love to showcase this.. any ideas would be much appreciated!

I wouldn''t rule out a bezel or a halo because it isn''t a dark amethyst, and the bezel and halo wouldn''t make it look too dark at all. That being said, here''s a great setting for your stone within your budget. It would fit perfectly (no alterations needed), and amethyst look awesome in rose gold. You could do this ring in rose gold for no extra charge. There is a $10 resizing fee for this vendor though.

Ohhh Amethyst in rose gold? That sound lovely, I don't think I've ever seen that combo?

TL, that setting is beautiful. I like the "flower"

I would not bezel it but it''ll be fine in a prong or halo setting.

That''s a beautiful setting.. I never thought of rose gold for the amethyst. I was also thinking of a three-stone setting, with maybe emerald cut side baguettes? something like this..

Tytania, that setting is for stones of up to 2 cts, so I doubt your 9+ mm amethyst would fit in there (maybe it could be modified, but I doubt it). Also, those diamonds are 0.05 cts each, which is very small compared to a center stone of over 9 mm, so they might end up rather unnoticable.

I like TL''s suggestion a lot.

I wouldn''t rule out a halo either - just make sure it''s prong set, not bezel. This is a setting I have for a smaller, 6.5 mm tourmaline, but I also got the same one for my mom''s friend''s stone, which was about 12 mm round (and also purple - we think it''s a lab-created alex. so no pics). I had them customize the setting and it came out very nicely, and under $400. I wish I could''ve done the halo in rose gold and the shank in white gold but my mom''s friend wanted all white, but you should ask.

I agree - I don't think that setting is appropriate for the size stone in question here. Thanks Mr. Ma Rae!!

Tytania,
If you look over to the right of this forum, you'll see some pictures. A few of those are of an amethyst in rose gold in a setting by this same ebay dealer. I think amethysts look awesome in rose gold.
