Help with round diamond for sister's engagement ring!

Hi All! I haven't been very active here since getting engaged a few years ago, but now my sister is about to take the plunge. Her fiance-to-be asked for my help, so I sent him to IDJ. His budget is 12k for diamond and setting. Yekutiel sent us a GIA-certified 1.5 carat H VS2 that gets a 2.8 on the HCA. Is that too high? My sister wants a beautiful diamond, but definitely wants it to be as big as the budget allows. I am attaching a screen shot of the GIA report. I would love feedback! Oh, and I think the diamond is in the 10k range.

Hi there! How exciting - your sister is to be engaged! This diamond is not terrible, but it is not a great one either, Yekutiel can find a much better one! What kind of setting does your sister want? My recommendation would be to possibly go do down a grade or so in clarity, as long as the diamond is eye-clean and maybe even down to I color in order to optimize the budget. I have worked with IDJ before and you are in great hands, but sometimes you have to be more specific in your requests. Not everyone wants the best performing diamonds. Please tell them that you are looking for HCA under 2.

You might ask Yekutiel for an idealscope or ASET image of it, to see if there is something he is seeing that warrants looking at it versus it's not so hot HCA score. He's generally got a really good eye for stones. But I'd also see if there's another choice or two to compare also and not just jump on first available...
