Hello! Was wondering if I can get some help...Here's my situation.

My boyfriend sent me a picture of a ring that may just be my engagement ring come December, however when I told him to show me pictures I was a little nervous as the pictures dont look good at all! I dont know if it is his poor camera skills (god love him) or if the diamonds are just not that great. He took the ring to a jeweler and the guy there told him the diamonds are all natural genuine diamonds and that the ring was very nice but thats all he would tell me. By just looking at these pictures can someone ease my mind and tell me it is just his poor camera skills LOL or if he bought poor quality stones? not that I really care but I just dont want him getting ripped off!

Oh and I cant really see the ring in person because it is 3000 miles away from me currently...along with my boyfriend

Any help would be great

I have more pictures and will post them if asked.

Ring stats are:

The main stone is an H-I in color and SI-1 the little stones are G-H in color and VS-SI.

I don''t think I''d be much help to you but I''d love to see more pictures :)

Let''s see the rest of the pictures. I love the setting!

Can you ask him if the center stone has a cert? That would maybe tell us a little more about what the stone is - or isn''t.

Would love to see all the pictures!

I agree with the other PSers. I''d love to see more pictures. I don''t think this picture does the ring any justice. It''s quite lovely though! Also, on a side note, where are you located? My FI and I are also LDR and he''s in Seattle, WA while I''m in St. Petersburg, FL so I know what 3000 miles feel like just like you!

I love the style of this ring! If the stats that you listed are correct, and depending on the cut quality of the stone, it seems like it should be a nice ring! Any way you can try to post a few more pics? (I know how hard it is to get a good pic of a diamond... It took me over a year of playing with our camera before I got any decent shots!)

Hi and thanks for all the responses! Missgotrocks: he doesnt have a cert but I am begging him to have it appraised...lol

Luckeyeshe: My boyfriend is in North Carolina and I am in California...waiting for him to finish off college...FINALLY!! then it's my turn

but the distance does make it tough sometimes, but it is worth it!

For all of those who asked for more pics here they are but I am afraid they dont help at all

I tried to tell him to take it when the sun was up but he took it around 5 when the sun was already setting where he was...this one was taken in his bathroom and the whiteness of this shot made me wonder.

We can''t tell much about the quality from pictures, but I must say that it looks like a very pretty design

An appraisal certainly can''t hurt, and may even be necessary for getting it insured. Do you know the vendor''s return/exchange policies, in case you both have second thoughts post-appraisal?

ditto, not sure where he is in NC, but this lady is an awesome appraiser and does work in the Charlotte area - oh and you can find other appraisers through PS on the resources link above.

Oh no he bought this from Ebay. I was a little scared when he told me that but when he talked to a jeweler after recieving it it turns out they are true diamonds. thats all he knows till he can get it appraised. Although this is only a temp. engagement ring and he paid very little for it I am still worried he spent money on something that might not be very good. I guess I am just stressing over nothing

cause after all this is just temporary!

My boyfriend keeps telling me not to worry and assures me the pictures dont do the ring any justice. So that makes me feel a little better, until I see it for myself IRL!!

Oh thanks so much. He is up in the boone area right now at App state but I will give him the appraiser, but the link does not work. Thanks so much for the help

There is actually another gentleman that I''ve worked with in Hudson, NC; it''s closer to Boone than Charlotte. The store is called Hudson Goldmine and the owner/gemologist is Bill Warren and he does appraisals, totally unbiased and professional (at least from my experience). I found them through PS as well and they are wonderful people to work with.

Not sure why the link didn''t work on my other post but the lady I originally referred to was Sue Whitaker, her info is under the resources page.

Good luck!

This pic would def. worry me too...however, maybe it just needs a good cleaning? do you know, how was he given stats if there is no certificate or appraisal? was there a return policy?

The man who sold it to him told him the specs. I dont know if its all correct though...guess I wont know till he gets it appraised.

I think that its a beautiful ring. I love split shanks!

I understand you feeling anxious about the ring I was constantly looking over it going to jewellers to see what they would say about my stone all because the appraisal I got was in a form that I hadnt seen nor could understand. I finally learnt to love the ring because of the meaning behind it I''ve started to think of it as a cost per wear thing the more you wear it the lower the cost per wear becomes so in the end you will be wearing it for under $0.01 a day, now that is value!

Be excited about your proposal! Get an appraisal for more peace of mind but wear it with pride and love the sentimental meaning behind it.

Sorry for blabbing on
26.gif
congrats on your impending proposal and being able to spend more time with your fiance-to-be!!!

oh p.s some stones come up blurry in pictures wait till you see it in person.

I think it''s just a poor picture, frankly - I bet it''s very nice in person!!!

The design is lovely, but the cut of the diamond does not look ideal. A good cleaning will work wonders and if he paid a fair price, then wear it with pride because it was given with love!

Then get a smnashing upgrade later if that is the plan
10.gif

your ring looks very pretty. I hope you go get it appraised and are within a return period just in case. I will be honest that your diamond worries me a bit looks a bit murky and cloudy, even though it is just pictures and it could just be the photographer (hope so) , and maybe it just needs cleaning (did you buy brand new?)

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. To answer a few of the questions he did not buy brand new and the person he bought it from said that frankly his girl did not want it "Anymore"
39.gif
So it may have been worn a while and not cleaned very often. My BF insists that it is stunning in person and I have to trust that until I see it LOL. We do intend to upgrade and I will try my best to get something excellent we can afford. I will enjoy this one while I have it and then I will need your ladies help on choosing the upgrade
2.gif

Dreamer: I was worried about cut myself as the price he paid for a diamond of its size just floored me and that could be why I cant believe it until I see it
33.gif

I know I have been driving him batty but it just kills me not to be able to see it...YET!
31.gif

P.S. I never realised how hairy my BF's knuckles were
25.gif
till I noticed on the picture with my Ering LOL!

Hmmm a sparkly diamond is a clean diamond!

I would absolutely get it appraised like everyone already said. They will clean it while it is there too.

I will admit, the center stone worries me as well. But honestly? You can get the same effect on an ideal diamond by having hand lotion all over the diamond as well.

In the meantime, could he take it to a jeweler to be cleaned and then re-photographed? Maybe that would put your mind at ease until you can see it in person.

Already on it! lol unfortunatly he left it at home till he goes back for christmas break (he was afraid he would forget it at school if he didnt leave it)
20.gif
Anywho so you guys can see what a predicament I am in *sigh*

Patience is a virtue!
17.gif

I think the pictures make the diamond look very dull. A cleaning will most likely help, however, there is no fire or brilliance at all. I am just being honest since you asked for opinions. However, an engagement is a very exciting time...ring or sans ring. Your BF is very thoughtful to purchase a ring...whether it''s temporary or not I think it''s a wonderful event to celebrate!
