IMG_0935.JPG IMG_0936.JPG IMG_0937.JPG I've been reading this site for days and learning so much. Don't know much yet though! I am eyeing a vintage ring on a classified site. It has no GIA report but has been examined by a GIA trained gemologist who says it's a 0.93 I2, H-I colour. Seller says it's eye clean. I haven't yet seen it in person, but I'm wondering a few things:
1. Is it an OMC? Looks round to me...
2. What causes a clarity grading of I2? I will call the gemologist to see if she remembers the stone. I can handle flea bites and such...(it's an old stone after all)
3. Seller is looking for $1000 CAD. Am I crazy to consider it? Should I get some better pics first? The journey for us is a distance, but something about the ring makes my heart flutter a little.
4. Any better options out there for an old cut under $1000? That all I have to spend to replace by stolen ring (.65 ct transitional1940's).

my opinion is that an I2 stone (graded by anyone, including the GIA) is going to have easily eye visible inclusions, (e.g., feathers, crystals, carbon).

Have you checked out jewels by grace or love affair diamonds? They are well-versed in beautiful old stones and reasonably priced, though they are in the US.
