Hi all! I have lurked for years...and so enjoyed learning and admiring everyone’s beautiful jewelry and have been so impressed with the community here :). I’m finally posting my own thread for the first time with a request for assistance (hope that is ok!).

Here’s the situation - my hisband bought me a pair of diamond stud earrings over 6 years ago and i very much treasured them. They were from a local jeweler, i never saw any specs so I don’t know if they were any good but they sparkled and i loved them. He paid approx $3k for them which was certainly way more than we could afford at the time. Fast forward a few years later and we were having some significanr financial challenges just a few weeks before giving birth to our third child, and it was Christmas time, so I needed cash more than I needed the earrings. I sold them at a local shop that sells fabulous vintage jewelry and upscale preowned watches. I did not tell him because I didnt want him to tell me to not do it. Several weeks after christmas I reached out to the store ro see if they still had them and would possibly hold them for me while I made payments and they were unfortunately already sold :(

I can’t say I regret the decision because I felt steongly that it was the right thing to do at that time for my family, but I promised myself that when the time came and our finances were better I would save up some $ and buy myself a new pair.

So sorry this is so long - anyway, what I’m looking to find is a pair of well cut (sparkly) round diamond stud earrings in a 6 prong basket setting - 1-1.25 ttotal carat weight - and most importantly for a reasonable price. I’ve saved up a little bit of money but not alot and because this is a re-purchase of sorts I would like to spend wisely. I’m open to preloved if anyone were to point me in the direction or I’m looking for suggestions on where to buy to meet those specs...

If anyone has stuck with my lengthy post to this point I so greatly appreciate it! Thanks for any suggestions and help :)

:tongue:Perhaps price up a pair of expert selection. Diamonds in the specifications you want on Whiteflash and the other online vendors.

Also look at the a cut above and super ideal diamonds so you know what it costs to get the very beat.

The setting doesn’t cost much. It’s the stones!

A pair of 0.6 Ct F, VS2 (tcw 1.2) Platinum studs were 3.1 to 3.3k each for stones and 325 for the setting and came to roughly $6500 total. Obviously will be cheaper in white gold, but not by much as you can see. But if you paired a H, SI1 it would be quite a bit cheaper.

You’re looking at about 4K to 4.5k using a quick search on WF for 1.2 tcw, H, VS2 - SI1

D55DAC33-6C5D-4D40-ACFB-4223DAEE6986.jpeg Hi, I’m no diamond guru, I’m an eBay shopper, over 12 years, over 1300 purchases (shhhh don’t tell my hubby).
While you can source some exceptional diamonds and have a pair of superb diamond studs created, you’re talking big bucks.
I’m the type who wants “best value for money” and not too much at that.
eBay might be a place to look.
These aren’t going to be certified diamonds, have GIA reports, be triple excellent cut etc etc but they can be white enough, sparkly, clean enough, fabulous and affordable.
Here is an example of what can be found
These are I colour and SI clarity - 1.15 carats total in 14kt white gold and under $2,000. Pre owned.
Not too shabby.
Another source can be Loupe Troop.

I'm with Bron, to get the most bang for your buck I think you can most easily compromise on color, for earrings a J color grade should be fine in white gold, and as low as L-M if set in yellow gold. Next go for SI1 or SI2 clarity but look for eye clean stones. The cut grade is what will get you your sparkle, this is where you go for as high a grade as your budget will allow.

These are all really good thoughts....i def think i would sacrifice color and clariy...

The fabulous illusion set diamond earrings.
Both are princess cut invisibly set, one is 9 each earring, the other 4, the overall “size” equivalent of 1 carat each ear.
And price, I paid under $400 for each pair.

The only other advice I can offer is to make sure you and the seller are both talking about total carat weight for both stones, or the carat weight of each stone. You don't want to buy a set assuming you are getting 0.6 ct for each stone, only to find out it was 0.6 tcw (0.3 ct for each stone). Last year, when we were shopping for studs, we spent time with a jeweler who from time to time would omit the "total", confused the heck out of me and my wife. =)

Prs - That’s a good point about total weight vs individual weight. Great reminder!

Bron357 - you must be an ebay rockstar!! I tried doing a quick search after seeing your post and got very overwhelmed! Is the first pair you posted currently for sale? Do yiu have any tips for finding items?

Back again with a few eBay items. All are current “buy it now”. All are from established eBay sellers with high feedback number and score. All are in the US.
When buying on eBay if you’re starting out, ii is best to stick with reputable sellers. They also provide better quality, actual item photos. What you see is what you are buying. Some might allow a return (check the listing) if you aren’t happy - though you will still be paying shipping both ways.
Buying from “random sellers” can be ok but can also mean poor quality photos (so you can’t really see what you’ll be getting), inaccurate details regarding the diamonds and even “pie in the sky” $$ prices. Business sellers on eBay price their items to sell and business sellers on eBay with good reputations want to keep it that way.
All these examples look decent and good value for $$$.
I’ll give you the eBay number which you just put in the “search” bar.
222758466812 - 1.3 total $2,250.
370920065779 - 1.0 total $1,750
232180106978 - 1.15 total $1,950 (these are the ones in the pic)
282660818784 - 1.17 total $1,399
351001075447 - 1.10 total $1,650.
I would stick with “buy it now” items, yes, occasionally an “auction style listing” might end with you getting a bargain purchase, but with diamond earrings, 99% of people know exactly how to sell / buy for and often it’s the cheaper, poorer quality diamonds that are sold this way.
Use eBay search “Diamond stud earrings”, refine your search (left hand side boxes) for carat weight “1.0 to 1.24” and price - I choose $1,000 minimum to $2,500 - and I chose “pre owned”, “buy it now”.
Be aware that some people call fake diamonds “diamonds” and “14kt gold” in the title but in the fine print mention GF meaning gold plated or Man made meaning CZ. For that reason putting a minimum $1,000 price gets rid of the fake items BUT always read all the listing words totally!
Good luck, have fun and remember every and any week there will always be decent options to choose from.

Would you consider .84 tcw in 3 prong white gold martini setting? Just curious. I'm halfway toying with selling my pair: E color VS triple excellent good HCA

Ok. Let me sleep on it and I will make a listing after the NFL playoff game tomorrow night if I decide to. Thanks for the interest.

They are BN signature ideal cut. They would be in the low two thousands...

Sounds like a plan!!!:))Thank you !!!!

Hey OP
You might find a good pair on ebay....and you might also get scammed if you don't know what you are doing. Only you can access that risk.

Buying a diamond is like many other things in life........you get what you pay for. I personally don't think there are any deals on diamonds. Many years ago, I learned this lesson the hard way, bought a cheap set of tires for my car....well they wore out quickly. Lesson learned.

Your a novice at buying diamonds.......WF is very good.....also call Lesley at BGD to find you a pair, setting, the whole ball of wax.
Best of luck

@Golden_bird aorry to get your hopes up. I poked around BN last night-- it is hard to find a set there because one usually comes in with good numbers and the other comes in wonky. I actually found a great 1.4 F set so I will likely trade my studs in. I have the new ones on hold so I can speak with a trade in person tomorrow. They are a very gpod price too

Whitewave- probably a good find, but people on this forum like to see pictures like ASET's, which BN does not provide.

Yes, I know. I have an ASET viewer; I will check. FWIW, I have bought 4 diamonds from BN and have kept them all. So I have had great luck with them-- can always send back with their generous return policy. The new ones are $12.00 more than the mininum I have to spend to upgrade.

Op, sorry to hijack your thread!!!

Whitewave - good luck and have fun with your upgrade process!

WillyDiamond - I agree with you - I am def a novice and certainly don’t want to get scammed. I also love the chase of finding a hidden treasure....went to BGD site last night and found something that seemed fantastic but with setting it was going to be almost $3k...which is more than I have saved :(

Bron357 - thank you for all of the tips - I will take a look at everything you found and see what I can dig up with your filter suggestions....thank you!!!

Everyone on this thread is providing such a wonderful welcome :). Thanks!!
