Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of picking out a diamond for my girlfriend's engagement ring. She picked out a setting (finally), which I can post if that helps visualize it. She loves OEC's, and here are two GIA certified stones that the jeweler sent for my consideration. I'd love to have some input. Are these any good or should I keep looking? Also, she said she doesn't mind warmer tones as long as they aren't too/aggressively yellow.

1.) Old European Brilliant
1.04 carats
6.37 - 6.47 x 4.02mm
I Color, VS1
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Fl.: None
Price: $5500

2.) Circular Brilliant (What is this, anyway?)
1.37 carats
7.07 - 7.18 x 4.32mm
M Color, VS2
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
Fl.: None
Price: $5800

I have no knowledge to help but to say that a circular brilliant is what GIA calls a transitional cut diamond.

Stone no.1 although smaller is a better cut and a better colour.

I agree: stone 1. The crown is a little steeper which, in that setting, will be more visible (stick up higher) than a flatter crown. Plus the cut and color are more appealing to my eye.

Pretty setting...These stones seem rather dark to me. Maybe its just the pictures but it seems like there is a lot of contrast.
I do think the first one looks better than the second one though.

Based on everyone's recommendations, we wound up contacting Adam at OWD. He's been an absolute pleasure to work with. Here's what we have coming to us on Tuesday. Would love to hear everyone's opinions.

GIA certified Old European Brilliant
1.38 carat, J, VS1
7.13-7.16x4.36mm
Polish: very good
Symmetry: very good
Fluorescence: none

Adam said darkness at 2:00 is just a shadow.

I much prefer this stone Adam from OWD showed you. Beautiful faceting and I love how white and bright it appears to be. Really beautiful.
