34BABA76-42ED-494F-8876-BFDFD5FFF328.jpeg I have an engagement ring that we had a local custom jeweler create. The lab grown diamond is 0.81 carat. I asked the jeweler for a certificate and he said it did not come with one. I have read online that lab grown diamonds should come with a certificate? Also do lab grown diamonds shine a bunch of rainbows and also the other day, I was admiring my ring and was like look how smooth it is( to the diamond) my Fiancé was like “ he said it would get scratched” and said what? “No I read diamonds are really hard to scratch.” And then my fiancé said if the ring was fraud he would sew for fraud. Can anyone help with this story or anything? He paid a good amount for this “ lab grown diamond “ and piece of jewelry and I feel like without a certificate and the information I’ve collected on it, it’s bringing bad vibes. Can anyone help?

Take it to a different jewelry store and get it tested for diamond. Make sure the owners know about moissanite and have diamond testers that account for such, as otherwise moissanite can test as diamond. I hope you got what you paid for!

Can you get a good face on picture of the diamond?

Hello,
Lab-grown diamonds can be without certificate. It is rare occasion but still can be.
I would recommend you to go to any gemological laboratory to certify your ring and diamond inside. They will tell you 100% if it is lab-grown or what. Any professional gemologist or jeweler can determine diamond (natural or lab-grown) from CZ or Masonite.
If you don`t have any gemological laboratory near to you, just go to pawn shop - they will tel you for sure. :D
Hope in your ring is a diamond!

Based on your description, I would guess that it's possibly moissanite. I would definitely take it to a different jeweler to get a second opinion. The fact that he said it would scratch is definitely a red flag. A true lab grown diamond would not scratch. It should have exactly the same scratch resistance as natural diamond, which is VERY, VERY difficult to scratch.

A Moissanite is 2nd in hardness (9.25) next to a Diamond (10) so it shouldn't scratch easily if it was a Moissanite. It could be a Sapphire or something else but I agree with everyone that you need to take it somewhere else to have it tested to verify..

You can take it to a reputable jeweller or even a pawnshop and ask politely if they could test it for you.
If it is “scratched up / abraided badly” that to me would suggest it’s a Cubic Zirconia. On a Presidum gem tester (which is what a jeweller / pawnshop should have) can tell you instantly if it’s Cubic Zirconia as that will test as glass.
If it is a Lab Grown diamond or even a Moissanite (hardness 10 and 9.25) these gems do not “scratch” with normal wear.
There are also other “diamonds” ie Nexus diamonds and Asha diamonds which are lab grown but are NOT actual diamonds either (various types of Cubic Zirconia with “coatings” or “infusions” of diamond).
There are sellers (especially on eBay for eg) who refer to Cubic Zirconia as being a lab made diamond. They mean made in a lab and LIKE a diamond - not the same as a diamond grown under laboratory conditions.
You would need to read your sales receipt and consider the price you paid for your “diamond”. Most genuine laboratory grown diamonds are not that much cheaper than natural diamonds and yes, most are certified. Stimulant diamonds, whether just plain CZ, fancier CZ with coating or infusion (Nexus or Asha) or Moissanite are usually a lot cheaper - from a few dollars to just a few hundred. If you paid for a genuine lab grown diamond and it isn’t one, you should be getting either your money back or the centre stone replaced (at jewellers expense) with what you paid for.
