Hi all, my mom just gave me a ring with a yellow stone that was my grandmother's. She always said it was a topaz, and she got it as a loose stone in Brazil in the 40s or 50s and then had it set in a ring years later in the states. She really loved gemstones and collected quite a few loose stones while working in Brazil for 30 years. I am planning to bring it to a jeweler in the next few weeks for a reset maybe with a halo, but any ideas as to topaz or citrine, etc? It is a pretty true medium yellow with little extinction and no inclusions that I can see. Very large - maybe 4 or 5 carats? Any opinions would be welcome!

Its definitely larger than 5 ct , ( from your first image size estimation )
if its a citrine it should be close to 10 cts and if its a yellow topaz around - 14 cts

My guess is its a citrine. - get a gemologist to check
