I am not an expert. I think that ''bead set'' FULL CUT diamonds is what an authentic Tiffany Legacy has, and they are set by hand. The copies of the Legacy do often create bulky set diamonds, and/or diamonds that are not full cut around the halo and it changes the look. I think that the setting you posted looks like a pave, but again, I am not an expert on this. I would follow the advice of the PS-ers who know about this. You definitely want to use a jeweler who knows what they are doing to create your ring. Micro-pave creates a really delicate halo setting, but i am not sure if the ring you posted is micro-pave. The stones look a bit larger than that to me. I just checked the appraisal for my Legacy ring, and each diamond is 1 point. And it bears repeating that getting a full cut 1 point stone will make a difference as well. Go over to Tiffany.com and look at the Legacy engagement ring b/c you can see the way the authentic hand set bead setting looks with 1 point full cut diamonds as a comparison to the ring you posted earlier. I really think there is a huge difference in the look, even though both are nice. Essentially, it might come down much less to diamond size (b/c after all 1 point is quite small), and more to the setting style and/or whether each diamond is full cut or not. I will tell you something else that matters too: the ring needs to be made *for your stone*, b/c otherwise, you run a great risk of the diamond getting lost in the halo setting. I would also recommend emailing the picture you posted to the jeweler you select, and/or work with the PS experts to find the jeweler that can create the ring you want.

Great post Isabelle! I didn''t realize all of this info about the Legacy and that''s the ring I''m copying (with a RB center). I''m really hoping for 1 pointers now haha.

I bet it will look amazing. I can''t wait to see it! :-)

I have the Ritani Endless Love, and I do believe that the stones in the halo are less than 1 pointers. I remember doing the math at one time (total carat weight of the setting / number of melee stones as reported by Ritani), but I have since forgotten. My center stone (below) is 1.14.

The Ritani settings are really beautiful, but I don''t think that is what is shown in the ring she posted originally. Am I wrong? I think her original picture shows a ring that looks a lot like a sunburst. The halo isn''t a bezel setting and the diamonds around create a sort of sun burst or sunflower effect, which makes me think it was custom made for the stone. I think she would be better off getting someone to make the setting for the stone. She said she doesn''t want a Legacy look, and I personally think the Ritani settings are very much in the Edwardian/Legacy style. (Just my opinion). :-)

Agreed, I don''t believe the OP wants a Ritani, but I think she was trying to understand what size stones to use in her halo. The pic she originally posted was a Tacori, I believe, and I posted the pic of the Ritani (above) to show her the size of the melee stones relative to the center stone.

Oh I see. So the other ring is a tacori? that surprises me too. Well in any case, it and yours are BEAUTIFUL. Makes me want to re-set my solitaire! LOL :-)

Stats? Um. I assume you don''t want diamond stats. Just setting stats? I don''t have my appraisal from Neil on me... so here goes my best recall.

1.09 F VS1 asscher. 5.9 x 5.9.
20 melee diamonds. Actually I don''t recall total carat weight of the diamonds. It''s not .2 though now that I think about it. It might be .16 or something. Each melee is 1.3 in diameter though, that much I know. The melee are single cut. Ocean (setting designer) purchased a lot of single cut melee at G-H SI, but they appraised at F-G VS though. I know she picked the cleanest and brightest ones of the lot for me though.

My shank is 2.1 mm according to the appraisal (I asked for 2mm).

The total size of the head is around 8 or 8.5 mm.

Claw prong set, although I wanted smaller claw prongs than I got... these work though and do make the stone look square. I do prefer Leon''s prongs.

The halo is tilted 25 degrees outward. The melee are craponia (french style pave) set. I would get Leon''s V-shaped pave if I did it over again though.

No metal edging or milgrain on the outside halo edge (so not like the ritani where you see a metal edge outside of the melee).

Hope that helps.

Gypsy, I think your ring is one of my all time favorites. I love it.

Thank you Isabel that is a lovely compliment!!!
