I'm thinking of getting high grade akoya earrings for my mom for Christmas since she doesn't seem to own any real pear earrings (just a lot of costume pearls).

She's chinese (with medium asian skin tone), and I was wondering what overtone is better, rose or silver?
I don't wear earrings, but is 6-6.5mm a good size for corporate business-wear?

I was thinking of ordering from Pearl Paradise, but I'm open to other suggestions!

Thanks!

MTG you can shoot an email tp PP with your questions, they are very helpful and will help you choose the right pair. Regarding size I think you can go larger to 7 to 7.5mm depending on your mother's build, ear size etc. Also I know with fresh waters they have silver rose overtones, not sure about akoyas.

I would say that 8mm would look good :)

I believe that the older you are, the bigger the pearls?? I''ve read that a few places. If she has super tiny earlobes 6.5 might cut it, but the larger sizes are just

I second calling Pearl Paradise.

Thanks guys!

My mom''s quite petite, about 5''3 and 120 lbs. I just didn''t want to get anything comically large for her since she would mostly be wearing them to business meetings (which I would imagine calls for subtle jewelery?)

I will give PP a call though. Thanks! I actually quite like the "silver rose" overtone photo they have in their education section.

That is certainly true for my mom! She loves big pearls - and for that matter, in the last few years, I''ve gone from wearing 5 mm pearls to 8.5 mm ones - and we''re both 5''1/5''2"

I was comfortable wearing my 8.5 mm working at a law firm this summer, but if she wanted to go a little more conservative, I would probably stay at 7.5 mm or less. I think 7-7.5 hits the perfect balance of classy understated for a more mature woman (or really, anyone).

MTG it sounds like your mom and I have similar skintone (mine is darker in the summer because of my tan of usually I''m right around medium, unlike my mom, who is super pale). I always order silver overtone but I think rose would look fine too - silver has just always been a personal preference. But I agree about calling PP - do you have pearls and similar skintone as your mom? Because you can always guesstimate based on yours.

Sounds like a fabulous idea - I''m actually considering getting my mom an Akoya pendant - I''d love to get her a huge SS one but sadly, can''t afford that yet!

I would agree- if you mom is petite I wouldn''t go above 7mm on her. I work for a fortune 10 company and highly recommend not wearing very flashy jewelry to work...which kills me by the way!

Bump! MTG what did you end up ordering?

6.5 - 7mm should be just fine then. Don''t go large for daily wear on a petit woman. Rose will blend better, silver will stand out more.

7-8mm rose or peach would be a great choice as well. Silver? I''m not so sure
